2 Years in Egypt; and the ride ahead!

Two years ago today, we started providing safe, reliable, affordable transportation to anyone, anywhere, and at anytime in Egypt. It started with a simple idea that is at the core of what we do: push a button and get a ride!

Egypt’s residents have always been forward-thinking, inclusive and quick to embrace new ideas and disruptive technology. But the pace of adoption in Cairo and Alexandria have been truly remarkable.

Today, Cairo and Alexandria are now two of the fastest growing cities for Uber worldwide.

From providing riders with more choices and creating micro-entrepreneurship opportunities for tens of thousands of individuals, we are also empowering countless small businesses and individuals from all walks of life. From delivering Basboosa and Puppies, to running a winter clothes drive to delivering Santa Claus right to your doorstep – it’s been a thrill and we’re excited to share every ride with you.

Celebrations are in order and there’s no better people to celebrate it with other than the ones who made all this happen – our riders and driver partners!

Standing by the people that we have to thank for where we are today – To our riders, thank you for letting us be your ride. We understand what it means to go through tough economic times, and because we do, we have decided to keep our fare prices the same until the end of the year for all of our riders!

To our driver-partners – Thanks to you, Egyptians have a safe, reliable way to connect with the people and places that matter most. 

As we cross the two year milestone, we wanted to reflect on our magical journey in Egypt, so let’s take a walk down memory lane. The results? Well, they’re fascinating. Just see for yourselves.

With such high demand, Egypt is plagued almost daily by peak hour congestion. This poses and continues to be a challenge in achieving the high reliability and low ETAs we aim to deliver. We’ve invested heavily in real-time data analytics, resources to map demand, grow supply and deploy advanced tech solutions to ensure a reliable ride is always just minutes away, no matter what.

It’s important to share the magnitude of our partner-driver’s commitment and ambition. Two years in, we’ve created flexible working opportunities for tens of thousands of Egyptians. Today, these thousands of driver-partners on the platform are carving out better, more secure futures for their families, to make the pivotal switch from a salaried worker to a financially independent entrepreneur.

The Egyptian market is one of the biggest and strongest markets in the Middle East and Africa and the services Uber offers fit the developing nature of the market. There are many investors that are willing to pump investments into the Egyptian market. With our growth accelerating, especially with the spread of smartphones and users adopting similar technologies, Uber Egypt has been increasing investment in the Egyptian market with investments up to $50 million over the next two years.

بدأنا منذ عامان بتقديم وسيلة نقل آمنة، وموثوقة، ومناسبة التكلفة لكل شخص في كل مكان وفي أي وقت في مصر. لقد بدأ الأمر بفكرة بسيطة والتي تشكل لب عملنا، ألا وهي “أنقر على زر وأحصل على وسيلة مواصلات”!

لقد كان سكان مصر دائمًا يحملون فكرًا مستقبليًا ويتقبلون الأفكار الجديدة والتقنيات الابتكارية إلا أن سرعة تقبل أهالي القاهرة والإسكندرية لخدمة أوبر كان أمرًا مدهشًا.

إن القاهرة والإسكندرية تعتبران اليوم من ضمن المدن التي يتسارع فيها نمو أوبر في العالم كله.

من خلال اتاحة خيارات أكثر للركاب وخلق فرص لإنشاء أعمال صغيرة حرة للآلاف من الأشخاص نقوم أيضًا بدعم عدد لا يحصى من المشاريع الصغيرة ودعم مختلف الأفراد من مختلف مشارب الحياة. لقد كان عملنا متعة حقيقة وكنا سعداء بمشاركتكم كل مشوار ابتداءً من توصيل البسبوسة اللذيذة والجراء، ومرورًا بإنشاء حمله لتوصيل ملابس الشتاء ووصولًا إلى توصيل سانتا كلوز إلى أبواب منازلكم.

لابد من الاحتفال ولا يمكن القيام بذلك إلا مع الأشخاص الذين ساهموا في تحقيق هذا النجاح وهم ركابنا وشركاؤنا السائقين!

ودعمًا للأشخاص الذين يجب أن نشكرهم لأنهم السبب في تحقيق ما وصلنا إليه وهم ركابنا الأعزاء، نقول لهم شكرًا لاختياركم لنا لنكون وسيلة مواصلاتكم.  ونحن لن نرفع أسعارنا حتى نهاية هذا العام.

ونقول لشركائنا السائقين شكرًا لكم لأنه بجهودكم أصبح لدى المصريين وسيلة آمنة وموثوقة للوصول إلى الوجهات التي يريدونها. 

ونحن نتخطى عتبة العامين نود أن نلقي نظرة على رحلتنا الساحرة في مصر ولذا دعونا نعود لنتمشى في دروب الذاكرة قليلاً. فإن سألتم عن النتائج فهي رائعة. بإمكانكم أن تلقوا نظرة بأنفسكم.

في ظل وجود مثل هذا الطلب العالي تعاني مصر يوميًا من اختناقات ساعة الذروة. وهذا الأمر يشكل لنا بل ويستمر في تشكيل تحدي لنا في تقديم مستوى عالي من الموثوقية وتخفيض وقت الوصول المقدر الذي نهدف إلى تحقيقه. وقد قمنا باستثمار كبير في تحليل بيانات في الوقت الفعلي، وفي الموارد لتخطيط الطلب، ولزيادة العرض، وعرض حلول تقنية متقدمة لضمان توفر وسيلة مواصلات موثوقة في غضون دقائق مهما تطلب الأمر.

إن متوسط وقت الوصول المقدر في مصر أنخفض إلى 3,6 دقيقة ابتداءً من فبراير 2016م.

من المهم أن نعرض لكم كبر حجم التزام شركائنا السائقين وطموحهم. ففي غضون عامين تمكننا من أن نخلق فرص عمل مرنة لعشرات الآلاف من المصريين. واليوم هؤلاء الآلاف من الشركاء السائقين العاملين على المنصة يقومون بتشكيل مستقبل أفضل وأكثر أمانًا لعوائلهم للقيام بتغيير محوري من كونهم مجرد موظفين يستلمون رواتبهم كل شهر إلى أصحاب أعمال مستقلين ماليًا.  

هذا هو إجمالي عدد الأشخاص الذين لديهم الآن مصدر دخل. إن أقل ما يمكننا أن نقوله هنا أننا فخورون بذلك!
