Switch to driving with the Uber app

Change from Delivery to Driving.

Drive with Uber

Driving with the Uber app is a great alternative to delivering with Uber Eats. It shares many of the same benefits and flexibility while also providing unique opportunities to earn.

You could earn more per hour

In many cities around Australia the earnings per hour for existing driver-partners with Uber has historically been higher than for Delivery People with Uber Eats.*

Earn at different times

Becoming a driver-partner with Uber is a great way to earn while still setting your own schedule. With different peak hours than Uber Eats, drive when you want and make what you need.

Earn like a Pro

Uber Pro ensures you earn points for every trip you take, giving you access to discounts on fuel, area preferences, cash rewards, priority support and much more.

Before you switch

There are additional requirements for driver-partners compared to Delivery People. To ensure you get activated as soon as possible, we recommend first checking to see if you meet all the requirements for driving with Uber in your state.

Depending on your state, it can take 21 days to get the required documents for driving.

Minimum requirements

All driver-partners must meet the age and licence requirements in their state. Most states require driver-partners to be 20 or 21 years of age and hold a full driver’s licence.

Supporting documents

Each state has different supporting documents required for driving with the Uber app, such as a driver’s authorisation or transport licence. You must apply for these with your state and upload them before your account can be activated.

Eligible vehicle

You must have a vehicle that meets Uber's vehicle eligibility requirements, including being less than 15 years old and having four doors. Visit the Uber Vehicle Marketplace if you don’t have an eligible vehicle.

What happens when you switch

Document review

After you have submitted your request to switch, it will take up to 24 hours to review your required documents to drive with Uber in your state. If you are unable to provide all the required documents, you will be restricted from going online until all documents are provided.

Documents such as the driver's authorisation, accreditation or transport licence can take up to 21 days to be processed by your state. We recommend having these documents ready before switching.

Getting activated

Once all documents have been provided and approved by our team, it will take 24 hours to activate your account. You will not be able to accept trips or delivery requests while the switch takes place.

Switching back to Uber Eats

Once you have switched to driving with Uber, you have to wait 12 days before you can switch back to Uber Eats.

Make the switch

As an existing Delivery Person with Uber Eats you will need to submit a request to switch your account so that you can accept trip requests and drive with the Uber app.
