Minimum requirements
There are a few minimum requirements to meet before you can sign up to drive with Uber:
- Meet the minimum age to drive in your city
- New drivers signing up must be 25 years or older to transport passengers, but can still sign up to deliver with Uber.
- Drivers under 25 years old who took their First Trip prior to September 12, 2024 can continue to drive with Uber.
- Have at least one year of licensed driving experience in the US (3 years if you are under 25 years old)
- An in-state license is required
- Use an eligible 4-door vehicle
Required documents
For your next step, share the following documentation:
- A valid California driver’s license
- Proof of residency in your city, state, or province
- Proof of vehicle insurance if you plan to drive your own car
- A passing vehicle inspection form.

Driver screening
After signing up, you can complete a screening online. It will review your driving record and criminal history.
Additional driver requirements for Uber Black drivers
- Approved, valid, and unexpired TCP Permit from the California Public Utilities Commission
- CA Secretary of State document that verifies the TCP Permit showing the same carrier name and address
- Proof of Commercial Auto Insurance
- Certificate of Commercial Liability Insurance with a minimum coverage of $750,000
- Vehicle inspection documents
- Airport Permit (if applicable)
- Secretary of State Statement of Information Document (if applicable)
