Sometimes accidents happen. So it’s good to know that starting Feb 1, 2020, you’re protected against medical costs and lost earning opportunities, subject to the cover's terms and conditions.

    You are covered from the moment you accept a trip or delivery request, through to when the trip ends or the delivery is completed.

    All Uber drivers are insured. Coverage is subject to conditions and limits.

How it works

What this means for you

Get help with medical costs if you’re injured in an accident while on an Uber trip. If your injuries stop you from driving, you can also get help with lost earning opportunities.

If you’re a driver using Uber in Bahrain, Injury Protection can help you with medical expenses and other costs.

You pay nothing

As part of our global commitment to safety we have partnered with AXA to provide as many drivers as possible with this protection with Uber being the policyholder. That’s why this insurance cover is at no cost to you.

How to use the insurance if you’re injured

If you’re injured in an accident while On-Trip and want to get help with your medical costs, please use the in-app claim form or contact AXA (see below).

FAQ

  • Injury Protection provides cover for specific events that occur while On-Trip. The key features are listed below. For key details please read this information from AXA.

    Medical cover: If an accident happens On-Trip, this cover reimburses you for necessary medical costs you have incurred following the accident (e.g. X-ray, operations, medicines) up to a capped sum.

    Death and repatriation payments: In the unfortunate event that you die as a result of an accident On-Trip, your dependents or heirs will benefit from a lump sum payment.

    Permanent disability payments: In the unfortunate event that you suffer a permanent disability as a result of an accident On-Trip, you will benefit from a lump sum payment. The amount depends on the severity of the disability, as determined by AXA.

    Daily payment benefit (injury): If you are hospitalised for more than 24 hours as a result of an accident that happened On-Trip and are thereafter unable to work because of your injuries, you will receive a daily payment for up to 30 days whilst you are medically certified by a Doctor as unfit to work.

    *Note: All above covers are subject to prescribed conditions, exclusions and limits, which Uber may amend at its discretion in its capacity as the policyholder.

  • This insurance is provided to you subject to the following terms:

    1. Uber may withdraw, update or modify this insurance at any time in its sole discretion.
    2. This insurance is procured by Uber at its own discretion and cost as the policyholder, and therefore Uber is not the provider of insurance nor is it acting as a broker or an agent of the insurance provider.
    3. Drivers shall not in any way be responsible or liable for any payments or premiums relating to the insurance whatsoever.
    4. The Driver and Uber acknowledge and agree that the Driver can decide to opt-out from being covered by the Insurance at any time by indicating they are declining the protection of the cover upon notice or request. Declining cover will not affect your ability to use the Uber App.
    5. Drivers are independent contractors. This Insurance does not in any way create an employment relationship or an expectation of employment (including from a labour law, tax law or social security law perspective) between Uber and the Driver.
  • Sometimes accidents happen on the road. We want to help you protect yourself against medical costs and lost earning opportunities due to accidental injuries sustained while you’re On-Trip. We are proud to be industry leaders with AXA in being your partner on the road.

  • We have been working closely with AXA to satisfy our insurance requirements in Bahrain. AXA's new product offerings are now available to drivers in Bahrain. The new program launches on the Feb 1, 2020. Coverage is effective on the same day.

  • Yes, all Uber drivers are now covered by this insurance, but you can decline if you prefer (see the next question to find out how).

  • It is your decision whether you are covered by this insurance program. You are free to say “no” at any time with no consequences. If you decline, you will no longer be protected by Injury Protection coverage, including help with medical costs and lost earning opportunities if you’re in an accident while on an Uber trip.   • Injury Protection is provided in the following countries where Uber operates Rides. Today Injury Protection is available in Pakistan, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt.

  • No, Injury Protection does not provide commercial vehicle insurance nor is it a substitute for comprehensive vehicle insurance. Please contact your insurer, broker or agent if you have any questions regarding your motor insurance.

  • No, medical treatment cover is not a substitute for a medical insurance policy. The cover provided for medical treatment is related to accidents that happen On-Trip only.

  • Cover is in place from the moment you accept a trip or delivery request, during the trip and through to when the trip ends or the delivery is completed. Please visit this link to see the key policy details.

  • You do not need to do anything. You are protected whenever you’re On-Trip using the Uber App as of Feb 1, 2020.

  • Like most insurance policies, Injury Protection has some general and cover-specific exclusions. Please read the key policy details and exclusions here.

  • In the event you’ve been in an accident and think you might have a claim, please submit a claim via one of the following channels:

    • To Uber through the Uber app to be routed to AXA;
