In the last decade, Downtown Los Angeles (DTLA to the locals) has flourished adding many new businesses, restaurants, and even brand-new residents. In fact, you don’t have to look very hard for something to do in this young and bustling metropolis. If you’re heading out for a night on the town or perhaps looking to impress your latest client, then consider using UberBLACK, you’ll get to arrive in a stylish vehicle that will only enhance.
Here are a few places in DTLA you should definitely check out:
Grand Central Market
Now almost 100 years old, Grand Central Market has been the premier destination for foodies of all stripes. And just like 100 years ago there are plenty of vendors selling fresh produce, meats, and otherworldly spices. The market is now the perfect distillation of everything that’s happening in LA’s vibrant food scene, from piping hot bowls of ramen to the homemade pastas at Knead. You might even have the greatest burger of your life at Belcampo, and yes, it’s that outstanding. It’s hard to find something you won’t love at the market.
Downtown Art Walk
Mark your calendars for the second Thursday of every month and be sure to hit up the next Downtown Art Walk, where you’ll find all of the latest DTLA art offerings on display. If you go to 634 S. Spring when start the night out, you’ll come across the Art Walk Lounge, where you can pick up a map and plot out your evening that stretches out over a 14-block radius. While the art walk is largely self-guided, you can also book a private tour.
Ace Hotel & Theatre
The Ace Hotel might be synonymous with younger travelers that can’t bare to part with having a turntable in their room, but their DTLA branch feels like something else entirely. For starters, they have a fantastic rooftop bar with breathtaking views of the city, and some of the finest cocktails in town. But what really sets them apart is the Theatre at the Ace Hotel. Once the home of Mary Pickford and Charlie Chaplin’s United Artists Theater and Studios, today it’s a lovingly restored event space that attracts some of the most popular performing artists working today.
The Broad
The Broad is the latest art museum to hit DTLA, and the greater LA community couldn’t be more grateful. With a focus on contemporary work, the Broad has an expansive collection of 2,000 pieces featuring works by Cindy Sherman and Andy Warhol. Best of all, general admission to view the permanent collection is free, but you’ll have to purchase tickets for rotating special exhibits. Be sure to hit up Otium, the museum’s restaurant, as they not only have wonderful cocktails, but also the added bonus of a menu overseen by French Laundry alum and chef wunderkind Timothy Hollingsworth.
Iron Triangle Brewing
A relative newcomer to the downtown brewing scene, the Iron Triangle Brewery has been serving some of the finest craft beer in the city since the beginning of 2016. Walking into their classically designed taproom, one can see their dedication not just to craft beer, but to the overall revitalization of DTLA as well. While more adventurous drinkers might seek out their barley wine, you wouldn’t be led astray by their flagship dark ale or IPA. The beer is so good and so drinkable that you’ll definitely want to take an Uber home.
