On December 21, we emailed to let you know that the State of Michigan signed a new law giving ridesharing a more permanent home in Michigan. Since then, we have been working to ensure we can make this transition as smooth as possible for you.
The new law will become effective on March 21, 2017. On March 21, all Uber driver partners will be expected to be fully compliant with the new regulations explained below, in order to continue to drive with Uber. We will be reviewing partner accounts for compliance, and will send follow-up emails if an item is missing from your account.
If you are missing a required document after March 21, your account may be waitlisted until you’ve made any necessary updates.

All vehicles on the Uber platform must have a vehicle inspection on file.
Each vehicle must have an approved vehicle inspection on file to receive Uber requests. If you already have one, fantastic! Otherwise, you will need to get one prior to March 21, 2017.
We have partnered with Belle Tire to offer Uber driver partners free vehicle inspections across the state of Michigan* to make this transition easier.
To have a proper vehicle inspection on file, please do the following:
- Download the Vehicle Inspection Form.
- Schedule a vehicle inspection appointment at your local Belle Tire. You can find locations here.
- Your vehicle must pass the inspection in order to receive ride requests from Uber.
- Upload your vehicle inspection form to your Uber account. To do this, you must open the partner app, go to account > documents > and take a photo of your vehicle inspection document.
- Keep a paper copy of your vehicle inspection form in your car.
*Note: Partners are not required to get a vehicle inspection at a Belle Tire location. You can schedule an inspection with a facility licensed by the State of Michigan. Note that Uber does not cover inspection costs performed by a third-party mechanic.
All partners must have the Uber logo decal displayed in their vehicle.
We will mail Uber ”trade dress” (an Uber decal for your car) to the address you have on file in the next 3 – 4 weeks. This trade dress is free to you. The address we have on file is the one associated with your driver’s license.
Beginning in March, we will also have free Uber trade dress at our Detroit Greenlight Hub and our Grand Rapids Greenlight Hub. You may pick up trade dress from those Greenlight locations.
Michigan Insurance Disclosure
As part of the state law, new driver-partners must acknowledge that their vehicles are properly insured under Michigan state law.
We will be working with you to make sure this process runs as smoothly as possible. If you have any questions, you can always visit an expert at our Greenlight Hubs or reach out to support through Help in your app.
