The joy of discovery lies not just in exploring new places but in seeing familiar ones with new eyes! You may be in Chandigarh for a short visit, have just moved here or been a long-term resident – but there’s always something new to experience here. To make things simpler, we’ve curated a list of must-dos and will have your Uber waiting when you’re ready to go!
The Destinations
CAPITOL COMPLEX
Accredited by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 2016, this outstanding architectural work by Le Corbusier houses the Punjab and Haryana High Court, along with monuments like The Open Hand, Martyrs’ Memorial, Geometric Hill, and Tower of Shadow.

ROCK GARDEN
Spread over an area of 40 acres, this world-famous garden is built entirely out of industrial and residential waste. It houses a number of interlinked man-made waterfalls, beautiful sculptures made of recycled waste, a hall of mirrors, among many other attractions. Its popularity and charm is demonstrated by the fact that the garden registers more than 5000 visits every day.
#ProTip: A lot of people visit the garden on weekends. Try visiting on a weekday to avoid the rush.
Japanese Garden
Located in sector 31, this park will transport you to Kyoto as soon as you enter. The park is made of two phases, which are connected by an underground tunnel decorated with beautiful Japanese paintings on both sides. It also has a meditation centre, a few water bodies, and golden bamboos.
#ProTip: Do not forget to take selfies & other photos, and let everyone know about this mini-Japan in Chandigarh!
Sukhna Lake
While planning for it, Le Corbusier foresaw the lake as a part of the city giving “care of the body and spirit”. Sukhna lake has the longest channel in Asia for rowing and yachting events, is frequented by many exotic migratory birds, and has been declared as a protective national wetland by the Govt. Of India.
#ProTip: It is the perfect place for a morning jog/walk. And yes, do have a go at boating at least once.
Elante Mall
With a retail space of more than 1 million square feet, this mall is the second largest in North India, and eleventh largest in the entire country. It hosts all the well-known international brands, an 8-screen multiplex, and even a mini amusement park - FunCity!
#ProTip: A completely genuine advice - take an Uber and avoid the time spent in parking.
SECTOR 17 MARKET
Dubbed “The heart of Chandigarh”, sector 17 plaza is a massive shopping centre planned around four pedestrian concourses meeting at a central intersection. It’s the place to be in evenings when the neon signs shine bright, the cool breeze fills your heart with pleasure, and the cafes are full of people having a relaxing time.
#ProTip: Capital Book Depot and Indian Coffee House are some of the oldest establishments here. They are vintage places that stood the test of time and are still going strong.
