Tell us a little about yourself and your car by creating a driver profile.
- 2. Minimum vehicle requirements
Down Small Your vehicle must meet the requirements to drive or deliver with Uber in Ottawa. There are many options available, check to see which ones your vehicle qualifies for.
- 3. Share your documents
Down Small Take photos of the following documents and upload them to your account:
- Driver's license: 21+ years old, Ontario G Driver’s Licence or equivalent (G1 or G2 is not allowed). If you're uploading an interim licence, please include a government-issued photo ID (e.g. previous driving license, passport etc.) in the same photo to verify your identity. Make sure to avoid using flash so that your information is clear and readable.
- Proof of work eligibility: Birth certificate, Citizenship card, Passport, Permanent PR card, Work permit, Social Insurance Number card or letter, Study permit (if it declares the ability to work off-campus unrelated to program of study), Certificate of Indian Status, Canadian Forces Identification Card, Nexus card. Please submit a photo or the original document. Scanned copies are not accepted. Make sure to avoid using flash so that your information is clear and readable.
- If you are uploading a work permit extension letter, upload the extension letter and your work permit in the same photo
- If you are waiting for your renewed PR card, upload a photo of your current PR card and PR card extension letter
- Vehicle registration: Both sides (left and right) of the registration document are required. The car must also be in good condition with no cosmetic damage, have 4 doors, no commercial branding, and cannot be rebuilt or salvaged. You are not required to own the vehicle. When taking the picture, ensure that it is not blurry and that all four corners are visible.
- Vehicle insurance: Insurance must be in your name and must be legible. When taking the picture, ensure that it is not blurry and that all four corners are visible.
- 4. Safety screenings
Down Small - Background screening:
Each year you must complete a background screening to drive with Uber. Visit your nearest Greenlight Hub to complete a background screening. The screening checks your driving record and criminal history. Be sure to bring your Ontario driver’s licence and 1 other piece of ID.
- Vulnerable Sector Check:
Upload a Vulnerable Sector Check document that you have obtained from your local Canadian police services. Please ensure this document is uploaded to your Uber account within 90 days of the search being conducted, and ensure that the official feature (official police seal, digital signature, or watermark is clear and visible). If your Vulnerable Sector Check is more than one page, please upload a picture with all pages visible, or a PDF version of your document.
Recommend steps for VSC upload:
Upload a Vulnerable Sector Check document that you have obtained from your local Canadian police services. Please read the following instructions carefully, as there are two methods of Vulnerable Sector Check depending on how you received it.
How to upload a digital Vulnerable Sector Check?
- Download and save the Vulnerable Sector Check PDF file that was sent by the Ottawa Police to your phone
- Open the Document section of your Uber account via the Driver app
- Tap on the “Vulnerable Sector Check [FRONT]” document slot
- Click “Take a Photo”
- Select “Browse Files” on Apple or “Media Picker” on Android
- Select the downloaded VSC file to complete the upload
- Replicate steps 4 to 6 for the “Vulnerable Sector Check [BACK].” You may upload the same photos for Vulnerable Sector Check [FRONT] and Vulnerable Sector Check [BACK] if your document is only one page.
Important Note: The digital document must be uploaded as the original file, screenshots are not accepted. Do not alter the name of the saved PDF file, or separate the PDF file into multiple pages.
How to upload a paper copy of Vulnerable Sector Check?
- Take a picture of the document and upload it to your Uber account within 90 days of the search being conducted
- Ensure that the official feature: official police seal, digital signature, or watermark is clear and visible
- Upload the front of the document to Vulnerable Sector Check [FRONT] and Vulnerable Sector Check [BACK] document slots
- 5. Vehicle inspection
Down Small Your vehicle must pass an inspection by a licenced mechanic to receive a Safety Standards Certificate (SSC) each year. You must upload a photo of this document within 36 days of passing the inspection.
You can have your vehicle inspected at either:
- A DriveON Vehicle Inspection Centre
- An existing Motor Vehicle Inspection Centre (MVIS) (available until March 31, 2025)
If you did not receive a paper vehicle inspection report and have instead been issued a DriveON digital inspection report, you can search for it on the DriveON portal and download it as a PDF file. Make sure to upload the document labeled “Ontario DriveON Safety Standard Certificate”, not the “Ministry of Transportation Safety Inspection Report”.
