Manager, Tax Technology
This is a hybrid position (50% in office) and you must be located in, or willing to relocate to, San Francisco.
About the Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Manager, Tax Technology who exhibits a strong sense of curiosity and a passion for leveraging technology to optimize and transform tax functions. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in actively engaging with the global tax business, seeking out innovative ways to deploy technology and automation to improve, enhance, and streamline tax processes. This role requires a forward-thinking individual who can bridge the gap between tax and technology, driving automation and process improvements to streamline tax operations.
What You’ll Do
- Identify opportunities to streamline use of data, implement automation tools, and enhance tax workflows to improve efficiency through technology, ensuring alignment with both short-term priorities and the broader long-term tax technology roadmaps.
- Facilitate tax and reporting project prioritization by making strategic recommendations based on business value and risk while ensuring seamless execution.
- Analyze, understand, and question new and complex tax and reporting scenarios, anticipate information needs, identify gaps, and clearly communicate business requirements by synthesizing data from multiple sources.
- Collaborate closely with regional and global tax teams and other finance stakeholders to understand challenges and proactively develop technology-driven solutions tailored to diverse jurisdictional requirements.
- Develop, test, and deliver tax technology and automation solutions in close collaboration with tax and non-tax partners, ensuring accuracy, scalability, and alignment with business objectives and compliance requirements before full deployment.
- Maintain the stability and efficiency of ongoing tax operations, proactively identifying, communicating, and resolving issues to support seamless business operations.
- Develop and beta test tax models in close partnership with tax and non-tax stakeholders, ensuring they are accurate, scalable, and aligned with business objectives and compliance requirements before full deployment.
- Develop and deliver training programs to educate tax professionals on emerging technologies and best practices, fostering a culture of digital transformation within the tax function.
- Stay ahead of emerging technologies, such as AI, machine learning, and RPA, to drive enhancements in tax processes and operational capabilities.
- Drive project management for tax technology initiatives by defining clear scope, allocating resources effectively, tracking milestones, assessing risks, and ensuring timely execution to achieve business objectives.
- Clearly communicate priorities, status updates, and delivery timelines to stakeholders ensuring alignment and efficient execution of tax technology initiatives.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Taxation, Finance, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years in tax technology, tax automation, or process improvement roles, preferably in a global organization.
Preferred Qualifications
- Deep expertise in tax software platforms (e.g., Vertex, OneSource, OIT/OTP, SAP, Alteryx, Tableau, RPA tools) and data analytics frameworks.
- Strong ability to assess complex tax processes, identify opportunities for automation, and drive tangible improvements.
- Ability to manage multiple tax technology projects, ensuring timely execution and successful adoption within the business.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence and educate stakeholders on the benefits of technology-driven tax solutions.
- A natural enthusiasm for technology and an unrelenting curiosity to explore new tools, methodologies, and approaches to enhance tax processes.
For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$149,000 per year - USD$166,000 per year.
