Uber—the official rideshare partner at the Formula 1®
Ready to set your wheels in motion? The Formula 1® Australian Grand Prix 2019 returns to Albert Park, Melbourne, and we’re thrilled to once again be the official rideshare partner of the Grand Prix from Thursday 14 March to Sunday 17 March.
Roads will be especially busy as 300,000+ people are expected to attend the Grand Prix across the four event days.
Uber is committed to improving your experience at this major event. Which is why we’re pleased to announce that driver-partners who pick up riders from all Uber zones at the Grand Prix will receive an additional $5 on top of the regular trip fare.
To ensure you enjoy a smooth and hassle-free experience, check out our handy guide to the Grand Prix, including details on Uber zones and best times to hit the road.
First up: Have your commercial passenger vehicle identification ready
You must display your vehicle identification to a traffic controller or Uber staff member to access an Uber zone. We recommend using the Uber vehicle identification sticker so you can be recognised quickly and easily.
Don’t have a sticker? Order a vehicle identification sticker or pick one up at the Port Melbourne GL Hub. Find us >
Next: Head to an Uber zone
In order to pick up and drop off a rider, you must access one of the five Uber zones. You can enter an Uber zone on any of the event days—look out for the Uber signage to help direct you to the zone.
We recommend heading to the GATE 1 Uber zone (Canterbury Road) or GATE 10 Uber zone (Fitzroy Street) as Uber staff will be able to help connect you with riders. Check out the map below for the five Uber zones operating across all four days.
Finally: pick up your rider and head out
For GATE 1 and 10 (Uber zones)
After you’ve entered the allocated bay, an Uber staff will accompany riders who have requested a trip from the Uber zone to help locate you. It’s important to have your Driver app open as our team will need to verify that you’re matched to the correct rider.
For GATE 2, 3 and 5
If you go online on your Driver app while you’re near any of these gates, you’ll start to receive a regular trip request to any of these Uber zones. To locate a rider, follow the Uber signage to head to the allocated Uber zone. Make sure you confirm the rider’s name and destination before starting the trip.
Peak Demand Times
Time | Trip type | What’s going on? |
12pm – 3pm | Drop offs | Riders are heading to the Grand Prix, and are mostly travelling from the CBD and south-eastern suburbs. |
6pm – 8pm | Pick ups | Riders are leaving the event, so head to the GATE 1 or GATE 10 Uber zone, where Uber staff can assist you. |
Here’s our handy run-down to make sure you’re ready to roll:
- Download the latest Driver app from the App Store or Google Play Store.
- Have your commercial passenger vehicle identification ready for display. Don’t have one? See the instructions above to grab a sticker.
- Traffic enforcement will be strict around the event, so to avoid blocking traffic, make sure you use any of the five Uber zones to pick up riders. Likewise, please avoid dropping off riders on the streets. For safety reasons, we recommend using the Uber zones for drop offs.
- When arriving at the GATE 1 or GATE 10 Uber zone, look out for Uber staff, who will help connect you with the rider. If you’re picking up riders from another GATE, be sure to follow the road rules and safely pull over to locate your rider.
- We’ll be sending real time information and tips on best pick ups via SMS.
