Government relief payments during the NSW lockdown

23July,2021 / Australia

We’re working to gather up-to-date information about government financial support that you may be eligible for in NSW and how you can request it.

NSW Small Business COVID-19 Support Grant

The NSW Government has put a support grant in place to help small businesses impacted by the lockdown, including sole traders like Uber driver-partners and Uber Eats delivery people. Eligible businesses can claim $15K if they are able to demonstrate a 70% loss of revenue during the lockdown period compared to the same period in 2019, $10.5K if 50% loss of revenue and $7.5K if 30%.

To be considered eligible, small businesses (incl. driver-partners) must meet the below criteria:

  • Have an active Australian Business Number (ABN).
  • Able to demonstrate their business was operating in NSW as at 1 June 2021.
  • Able to demonstrate a turnover of over $75K for the year ended 30 June 2020.
  • Have business costs for which there is no other government support available.

NSW Micro Business COVID-19 Support Grant

The NSW government has also recently announced grants of up to $1,500 will be available from late July for small businesses or sole traders with an annual turnover of over 30K but below 75K. You can sign up to receive updates on the Service NSW website.

Federal Government’s COVID-19 Disaster Payment

Driver-partners and delivery people who do not meet the NSW grant’s eligibility criteria may still be eligible for the federal government’s relief payment. Please note that you are not able to apply for both state and federal grants.

To be considered eligible, individuals (incl. driver-partners and delivery people) must meet the below criteria:

  • Be an Australian resident or hold a visa that gives you the right to work in Australia
  • Full eligibility criteria here
  • Did not receive the Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment or other state or federal payment.

Federal Government’s Pandemic Leave Payment

Federal support is available for individuals who can’t earn an income because they must self-isolate or quarantine, or are caring for someone with COVID-19.

NSW Small Business Fee and Charges Rebate

Small businesses and sole traders in NSW can apply for $1500 in rebates to offset costs of eligible NSW and local government fees and charges due and paid from 1 March 2021.

As NSW responds to COVID-19 by limiting movement, we know this has had a particularly tough impact on drivers and delivery people like you. If you have any questions, you can contact our support team via the Help section of your Driver app or driver-partners can give us a call at 1300 091 272 – 7 days a week, from 8am to 11.59pm Australian Eastern Standard Time.
