To coincide with the school holidays, Eats for teens is now available across Australia, empowering teens to order their favourite food from more than 50,000 restaurants and cafes at the tap of a button.

The launch comes as new research* from Uber Eats reveals more than two thirds of Australians (67%) use online food delivery at least once a month, with one in 10 ordering once a week or more and almost a third (28%) primarily ordering for their families.

Whether they’re ordering sushi, fro-yo or a post-soccer practice pasta, parents and guardians can invite their teens to create a teens account under their family profile, granting teens aged 13-17 the ability to order food whenever, even when parents are not around.

As part of Uber’s commitment to helping keep teens safe when using the Uber platform, Eats for teens accounts have a teen-friendly view in the app where they can only place orders  from restaurant partners, while age-restricted items and regulated goods, such as alcohol, will be filtered out. Parents and guardians will be notified when their teen places an order, and can track the delivery in real-time on their phone.  And, to avoid any unwanted surprises, they can also set a custom monthly spending budget.

For added peace of mind, only highly rated, experienced delivery people are eligible to deliver Eats for teen orders, with teens selecting whether they’d prefer the delivery to be handed directly to them or left at the door.

Ed Kitchen, Managing Director of Uber Eats ANZ, said: “We’re proud to launch Eats for teens in Australia after the Uber for teens launch earlier last year. Being the first in APAC, we are confident the teens account feature will offer a convenient solution to busy Aussie family life.

We know how tricky it can be to balance kids’ competing priorities and schedules, especially with teens who are constantly on the go – so, whether it’s after school, on the weekends, or to keep up with hectic family schedules, Eats for teens ensures teens are fed and refueled with their favourite food, even when the juggle is real.”

Victoria Rose, Sydney-based doctor and mum of two teens, said:

“Eats for teens is a game-changer for our family. I love how easy it is to track my kids’ orders, giving them independence while keeping me in the loop. The convenience of it is a lifesaver on busy days when we’re juggling work, school activities, and everything in between. My daughters are often at different after school activities and want to recharge with their favourite smoothies afterwards, so this a great way for them to learn responsibility around food choices. I feel confident knowing the service is designed with safety in mind, no surprises as I can set a budget limit, and it’s an extra tool that makes life a little bit easier since both my husband and I work full time.”

The new data also highlighted that convenience (~87%) is the top reason Aussies cite for using online food delivery services. Time-saving (~56%) and stress-free meal planning (~35%) are also significant factors, highlighting the growing demand for flexible meal solutions for busy families.

Parents can follow these 3 simple steps to get their teen’s account set up in the Uber Eats app:

  1. Tap Account > Family to create a Family profile.
  2. Tap Invite Family > Teen > Choose contact and select their name from your contacts (Aged 13-17).
  3. Make sure your payment information is up to date and a spending limit has been set before your teen makes their first order.

Teens can follow the below steps to set up their account:

  • Once the above steps are completed by the parent or guardian, the teen will receive an invitation to join Uber for teens or to download the Uber Eats app if they haven’t already.
  • Once the teen finishes the setup process, they can begin using their teen account to place orders independently.
