New research released today by Uber Eats has revealed one in three Aussies head to the shops at least twice in the week leading up to Christmas to pick up forgotten items, with nearly one in five of us hitting the supermarket three times that week.

The new data has revealed that more than a third of Australians (34%) admit to having forgotten a key ingredient on Christmas Day.

According to the research, the most commonly overlooked items forgotten on Christmas Day are ice (14%), paper plates (12%), wrapping paper (11%), Christmas crackers (11%) and gravy (10%).

Uber Eats, Regional General Manager for Grocery and Retail, Lucas Groeneveld said, “Christmas is the ultimate hosting occasion of the year and while it’ll be a joyous occasion for most – we know there’ll be a few secretly feeling unprepared.

We want all Aussies to know that Uber Eats is there to help ensure everybody’s Christmas runs smoothly. To save people spending hours at the supermarket or bottleshop in the lead up to the big day Uber Eats will have fresh fruit and vegetables, beer, bubbles, wine and a stack of everyday groceries available at the click of a button through retailers like Woolworths Metro, IGA, Friendly Grocer, Liquorland, BWS, Vintage Cellars and plenty of other local favourites visible on the Uber Eats app.”

Of course festive forgetfulness can also extend beyond the marquee meal of the season and into present giving, so the Uber Eats team is helping Aussies out of a pickle there too, with a last minute gift idea wrapped up as the ultimate summer stocking filler – a pair of limited edition Australian-made Budgie Smugglers.

There are 500 items of the fluro fashion from Budgy Smugglers, Smugglettes and bucket hats each sporting a pickle motif – a cheeky nod to the fact that Uber is now delivering fresh fruit and vegetables. The range includes

  • Bucket hats – leaving you cool as a cucumber – for $35
  • Men’s swimwear – a.k.a pickle hammocks – for $50
  • A Lady’s one piece – brine time fashion – for $90

Each purchase is packaged in a special summer pickle jar and is available for delivery from local merchant Bondi Beach Cellars. Those in searching distance of the local legends from Bondi Beach Cellars just need to search “Budgy smuggler” using the in-app search tool or by browsing the Bondi Beach Cellars virtual menu on Uber Eats.

The last minute gift apparel will be available in a range of sizes from Monday December 20 until sold out.
