The Uber Red Cross Clothing drive is back and this year, we’ve partnered with superstar real estate agent and ‘Professional Selling Expert’, Chrishell Stause, to explain the importance of donating over selling.

With research revealing more than $20 billion dollars worth of clothes that could be donated to charity shops are currently sitting in Aussie wardrobes, the Australian wardrobe real estate industry is clearly a hot commodity, so it’s only right that we called in an expert to help us drive donations this year.

“When you do a wardrobe clear out, there are two piles that form – the clothes you plan to donate and the ones you plan to sell. “The ‘sell’ pile is usually the high-quality stuff, and charities like Australian Red Cross are left with the rest. This year, we’re asking Aussies who are able to consider donating their sell pile, so that Australian Red Cross is better able to fund the critical programs they run,” said the Selling Sunset star.

“When it comes to wardrobe real estate – space matters. Who needs a wardrobe full of glamorous, impractical outfits that you just never wear? Not me. The Uber Red Cross Clothing Drive is the perfect time to take a proper look at your wardrobe and donate the quality clothes you just don’t wear anymore.”

With Chrishell in our team, this year we are on a mission to get Aussies donating both quantity and quality clothing in this year’s Uber Red Cross Clothing Drive. In  research we commissioned, two in three Aussies admitted to donating damaged clothing, but only 1 in 10 said they would ever consider buying poor quality items. Despite this, our partner Australian Red Cross tells us that it’s the quality items that make the biggest difference in stores.

“Through selling quality pre-loved clothes in our Australian Red Cross shops, we’re able to reduce the time spent on sorting donations, and crucially, create more funds for the critical programs we run for vulnerable Australians,” said Richard Wood, Head of Retail at Australian Red Cross said.

Now we know nostalgia is a big reason people hang on to clothes, with 1 in 4 Aussies admitting this prevents them from donating clothing. This year we’re asking; will you really ever wear your old Prom dress again? If you haven’t worn something in a couple of years, it’s time to get ruthless and recognise that you likely never will again.

The good news is, once you’ve indulged in a good old therapy session with your wardrobe, Uber is making it easier than ever to donate your preloved pieces to Australian Red Cross. And the good news? It’s completely free on Saturday 19th October between 10am- 4pm.

Here’s how to get involved:

  • Open the Uber app
  • Scroll to the Red Cross Clothing Drive image, and tap.
  • You should see ‘Red Cross Clothing Drive’ set as the drop off spot
  • If you’re in an eligible city, The Red Cross Clothing Drive promotion should automatically apply, so check that the trip is showing as a $0 amount
  • Confirm!

Having issues or can’t see the tile? Head to > Package > type in ‘Red Cross Shop’ > Pick the first option shown > Confirm

Participating cities include Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth.

As part of the campaign, Chrishell has donated some incredible looks to Australian Red Cross to help raise vital funds. These items and more will be popping up in Australian Red Cross stores across the country so keep an eye out to possibly grab some of Chrishell’s pieces.

“Red Cross has such a special place in my heart. Growing up, I was the kid who received Red Cross care packages every New Year. So this is a full circle moment for me, where I am now supporting an incredible cause in my second home – Australia!” said Stause.

Emma Foley, Managing Director at Uber ANZ said: “We couldn’t have found a better partner than Chrishell to raise awareness of the need for quality donations. Uber has supported Australian Red Cross via our annual Clothing Drive for over six years and this year we wanted to really highlight the importance of donating quality pieces of clothing that may be just taking up valuable wardrobe space otherwise. All you have to do to get involved is pick out those quality pieces, bag them up, book a package delivery in the Uber app on Saturday 19th October, and we’ll do the rest of the work for you.”
