Smooth landings – launching kerbside at Sydney Airport’s International terminal, complete with PIN technology
Written byFrom today, travellers at Sydney Airport’s International terminal can experience a smoother and more efficient arrival at Australia’s global gateway, thanks to a new dedicated pick-up zone leveraging PIN technology.
Arriving Sydneysiders and visitors alike will be able to book an Uber trip, then simply stroll 20 metres from the International terminal doors to catch their ride from the new dedicated pick-up zone.
Specifically designed for busy locations such as airports, Uber’s cutting-edge PIN technology matches riders to a driver already waiting in the Uber pick-up zone – removing the need to wait for an assigned driver to arrive. After requesting a ride, riders will receive a PIN code which they can provide to the first available driver at the pickup zone before starting their trip.
Available for the first time in New South Wales, PIN technology has already been deployed at airports around the world including Melbourne, and has been proven to reduce wait times for travellers by up to 50% – delivering a seamless experience for both riders and drivers.
The new pickup zone extends our partnership with Sydney Airport after the successful launch of Uber kerbside at Sydney T3 Domestic Qantas in December 2023. However PIN technology will only be available at T1 International Terminal, the Domestic pickup rideshare experience will remain the same.
Travellers will continue to benefit from all the usual Uber app features on trips from Sydney’s International terminal, including an upfront price before they confirm, GPS tracking, 24/7 customer support and seamless payment. Whether they’re meeting family, friends or business contacts, riders will also continue to have access to Uber’s Share my Trip feature – a great way to let whoever they’re meeting know they’ve touched down and are on their way.
Emma Foley, Managing Director, Uber ANZ said: “We are proud to partner with Sydney Airport to create an innovative, dedicated space for Uber pick-ups at the international terminal. This new zone will provide a smoother and more efficient experience for riders and drivers alike, and by using PIN, we can help Sydney Airport ease congestion at busy periods – perfect timing ahead of the peak travel period.”
How it works for riders at T1:
- Request an Uber trip to receive a 6-digit personal identification number (PIN).
- Walk to the Uber pickup zone in front of Terminal 1 International, and either go to the first available car or, at busier times, join the queue.
- Share your unique PIN with the driver-partner. Verify vehicle and driver partner details before you get into the vehicle.
- Start your trip!
A newly designated holding area for Uber vehicles – located closer to the terminal – will offer drivers a more convenient space to await riders.
