Who can request this?
You have been holding a valid driving license for the past three years and you meet the conditions for morality, professional competence and solvency.
What are the steps to follow?
- Apply and attend an information session in person or online via this link.
- Register for the selection tests at guichets.dtp@sprb.brussels. The following documents are required as attachments:
- Certificate of attendance to the information session,
- Identity card,
- Belgian national driver’s license category B or a European driver’s license of equivalent category (must be held for at least 3 years),
- Extract from the criminal record in accordance with article 596.1 of a maximum of 3 years old).
- Register for the national written and oral examinations via email at guichets.dtp@sprb.brussels.
- Once you have passed the regional examinations, you can apply for a certificate of competence at the offices of the Passenger Transport Department.
What documents are required to register for the regional examinations?
You will be asked to provide the original versions of the following documents:
- Identity card,
- Belgian national driver’s license category B or a European driver’s license of equivalent category of a maximum of 3 years old,
- Extract from the criminal record in accordance with article 596.1 of a maximum of 3 months old),
- Certificate of completion of the selection tests,
Which additional documents are required for foreign nationals?
- Work permit (for non-EU nationals) or household composition certificate (for non-EU nationals married to a Belgian national),
- Embassy certificate or any other document establishing good conduct, life and morals prior to their period of residence in Belgium, or, if applicable, proof of political refugee status or a residence history proving legal and uninterrupted residence in Belgium for more than 5 years.
What are the regional exams?
The written examination covers general regulations of the taxi or LVC services in relation to the activity of the driver, the services required for people with reduced mobility as well as the regulations concerning road safety and the sharing of spaces with public transport.
The oral examination focuses on language skills (Dutch, French and English) and map reading.
A grade of 60% is required in both the written and oral examinations.
How to obtain the results of the regional examinations?
The results will be made available within one week of the examination date. Results requests can be made at candidats.chauffeurs@sprb.brussels.
Each candidate will receive a written notification by mail.
Support for examination preparation
The Taxi and LVC syllabuses are available upon request at candidats.chauffeurs@sprb.brussels.
Organizations such as Bruxelles Formation, the VDAB and the Passenger Transport Department offer exam preparation courses. The courses given at the Passenger Transport Department take place every week and are free of charge.
What documents are required to obtain a taxi or LVC certificate of competence?
Please bring the original version of the following documents when applying for a certificate:
- Identity card,
- Belgian national driving license category B or a European driving license of equivalent category of a maximum of 3 years,
- Medical certificate attached to your valid driving license,
- New criminal record extract in accordance with article 596.1 if your registration is older than 3 months,
- Certificate of successful completion of the regional exams for the employed driver, an employment contract with the Dimona declaration or an individual company training agreement (FPI-E) concluded with an employer and with Brussels Training (Note: for Dutch-speaking candidates: IBO agreement concluded with an employer and the VDAB); for the self-employed driver, proof of affiliation to a social insurance fund 7.5€ for the costs of issuing the certificate of competence.
