As Rashi Dewan’s passion for food (and analytics) grows, so does her career at Uber Eats. After joining in 2019 as a Restaurant Operations Manager in Sri Lanka, she became Head of Restaurant Operations for the country and is now a Senior Territory Operations Manager for Uber Eats in Manchester, England.
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
“I was raised in New Delhi, India and now live in Manchester. I’ve worked in the food delivery business in India, Sri Lanka and the UK, with a 2 year entrepreneurial stint in between starting and running an Italian food business in India.
I am passionate about cooking, trying new recipes from around the world and feeding people until they are completely stuffed! I spend my weekends trying new restaurants around Manchester and planning treks to Peak District to burn off all the food I consume.”
How has your role evolved at Uber?
“I began my Uber journey in 2019 in Sri Lanka as a Restaurant Operations Manager, managing a team of Account Managers improving restaurant partners’ experiences. I grew to become Head of Restaurant Operations and Sales for Uber Eats in Sri Lanka, responsible for all restaurant partner-related activity, leading the overall front-line Sales and Account Management teams.
After 2 years with Uber in Sri Lanka, thanks to the amazing mobility options Uber provides I took the opportunity to take on another challenge and now manage the Uber Eats business for Manchester, overseeing all sides of the Uber Eats marketplace.”
What does your day-to-day look like?
“My day to day at Uber is a mix of working on strategy, helping set goals for Manchester and laying plans to achieve it, as well as supporting my team in executing these plans and monitoring our progress.
Most days involve making data-driven decisions on a variety of topics and engaging with restaurant partners across Manchester to support their growth on the Uber platform.”
How are you building and growing Uber Eats in the UK today?
“As a territory-focused team, we try to bring the best restaurants in Manchester on to the Uber Eats platform and help them grow, in turn increasing the choices available for eaters, ultimately building and growing the overall Uber Eats proposition. We do this with an underlying belief that we grow when our partners grow, keeping Uber’s core value of building with heart in mind! At the end of the day, it’s very satisfactory to see that every input (i.e. every new restaurant we sign or help grow) leads a direct positive output towards Uber Eats.”
What are some of the key lessons you’ve learned at Uber?
“As an individual originally wired to listen to gut feel, the power of data has been an eye-opener. Seeing the impact of data-driven decision making and data-based insights tangibly helping restaurants grow has turned me from someone who used to be scared of numbers to one who’s always ready to dig into them!
As a manager, a key lesson has been realizing how unique individuals are and how it is critical to tailor your approach for each team member to be able to support them in doing their best.”
Any tips for people looking to join Uber Eats?
“A trait that really helps at Uber is being open to ongoing learning and development. Being someone who can absorb and learn is key.”
