One of the top consumer goods companies in the world, Unilever is best known for its stellar collection of 400-plus brands, including Dove, Lipton, and Ben & Jerry’s. The company is headquartered in London and has team members spread across the globe.
As the Unilever North America team leadership hit the halfway mark for 2020, they were looking for a unique way to reward their 9,000 employees for all their hard work during a challenging year. Whatever their position, each employee played a role in keeping the company’s beauty and personal care, food, refreshment, and home care products on store shelves during the pandemic.
Rewarding employees
Each employee was given a voucher for Uber Eats. The gift was announced in a July town hall meeting with the entire group led by Fabian Garcia, President of Unilever North America.
“It was important for us to come up with something that employees would be genuinely excited about, and Vouchers for Uber Eats fit the bill,” says Michele Aweeky, Associate Manager, Internal Communications, Unilever. “The reaction was really positive. Our employees loved being able to choose exactly what they wanted while supporting local restaurants.”
The employees simply had to click on the link in the email to redeem the voucher within the Uber Eats app. They then had 30 days to use it before the voucher expired. Unilever worked with Uber to confirm that the top 60 North American markets where their employees live featured compelling restaurant partners.
Going viral
Once the Unilever North America employees received and redeemed their vouchers for Uber Eats, many of them had a light-bulb moment: they spotted a great solution for their own group’s customer, partner, and employee engagement needs.
Some of the ways they leveraged Vouchers for Uber Eats:
- Attendance incentives or thank you gifts at virtual events
- Partner promotions, such as milestone rewards for Advantage Solutions, their in-store promotion and sales vendor
- Team-building meals over video conference
- Covering the cost of delivery for the Ice Cream Exchange promotion, a unique consumer contest that offers free and discounted ice cream to participants to submit their worst holiday gift stories
“It’s been amazing to see all of the different ways our team has leveraged Vouchers for Uber Eats across the company,” adds Aweeky. “It’s been great to find an option that boosts both employee and partner morale while also supporting local businesses.”
