Canadians are crushing Dry January — Uber Eats data reveals the driest cities
Written bySurprise! Checking in on how you’ve been sticking to your New Year’s goals 👀
We’re back for the second year in a row, dishing out the details on which Canadian cities are crushing their Dry January goals and which ones might need a little extra push before Fall Off February rolls around.
From the cities most inclined to swap their nights out for nights into those swapping sweet treats for sweat sessions, we’re revealing who’s locked-in in 2025.
Check out the below to see all the wellness wins so far for 2025:
- 👑Driest Cities (Top 10 cities that ordered the least amount of alcohol and Top 10 cities that ordered the most mocktails): When the clock struck midnight on January 1st, many Canadians waved bye-bye to booze. Creating a sober streak, Winnipeg stayed the driest for the second year in a row with the least alcohol orders while Regina took the top spot for most mocktails ordered.
- 💪Pilates Princesses and Gym Bros unite (cities with the most trips to a gym/community centre): No sun? No problem! Canadians are beating the winter blues and burning off those holiday cookies by getting their gym grind on. Ottawa residents topped the list of cities taking the most rides to the gym, followed by Kitchener-Waterloo and Calgary.
- 😴Putting party animals to bed (Top 10 cities that took the fewest late night rides 9pm-2am): Winter is the season of hibernation, and Canadians are fully embracing it after a season of holiday parties and New Year celebrations. Red Deer leads the charge for rest and relaxation, kicking off 2025 with the fewest late-night rides, followed by Kelowna and Victoria.
- 🚰No time for wine – (Type of alcohol drinkers who commit the most to Dry-January): Wine Moms, Beer Bros and Liquor Connoisseurs jumped into the ring for round two this new year, seeing who would commit the most to Dry January. Once again, wine drinkers came out on top, with the greatest decrease in orders from December 2024 to January 2025, followed by beer & coolers tied for second and liquor sippers coming in last.
- 🥦Glowing from the inside out – (Top 10 cities ordering the most from the “healthy” category): They say beauty and health start from within—and Canadians aren’t messing around when it comes to keeping their guts in tip-top shape. Ottawa residents treated their bellies to greens this January with the most orders from the healthy category.
- 🧃Keeping it fresh (pressed) – (Top 10 cities that ordered the most juice cleanses or smoothies): Canadians started 2025 feeling juiced up, canceling out the Christmas carbs with a literal blend of fruits and vegetables. Edmonton showed the most liquid love, topping the charts for juice cleanse and smoothie orders in January.
- 🥗So(y) happy without meat – (Top 5 cities that ordered the most from vegan restaurants): Leaving the turkey troubles in 2024, many took a chance on meat alternatives this January. Victoria led the animal-free charge with the most orders from vegan restaurants in January, followed by Edmonton and Ottawa.
Alcohol orders on Uber Eats from July 2024 to January 2025, highlighting the rise of orders over the holidays and the decline in the New Year.
