Uber is the perfect place to start and grow your career—no matter where you are or what experience you have. Meet Valentina, Camila, Juan, Brandon, and Layquin, a few of our interns from across LATAM, as they discuss how they drove their own growth, made an impact, and expanded their community through internships at Uber.
Chile: Valentina Leiva – Operations Coordinator Intern, Courier & Marketplace
“Diversity and inclusion are highly visible and valued topics at Uber that are woven into the core of both the company and the product.
As an intern, I was given the opportunity to contribute to and participate in Employee Resource Groups. Becoming a part of both Women@Uber and Pride@Uber helped me to build a community, attend events, and connect with other members of the ERGs across the company.
I also appreciate that Uber is focused on advancing gender equality in both our product and the communities we serve. Our Women Rider Preference feature lets women and nonbinary drivers set a preference for picking up only women riders. Drivers can turn the feature on or off whenever they choose. Teams across Uber work on a variety of innovative safety features and our value Stand for Safety is at the heart of our decisions. I truly see Uber’s value of diversity and inclusion reflected in every product and team at Uber.”
Colombia: Camila Patiño – Growth Operations Coordinator Intern, Eater Ops
“I had an amazing Uber internship experience. My team helped me grow everyday through mentorship, hands-on experience, and knowledge sharing. I always felt welcome and free to ask questions or propose new ideas. Uber welcomes all levels of experience and truly values helping everyone learn and succeed.”
Argentina: Juan Patricio, Operations Intern
“During my time at Uber, I had the exciting opportunity to work on multiple projects that had massive impacts on the region’s core operations. The project I found most interesting was the reorganization and expansion of Uber Comfort. Uber’s dynamic workflow allows every employee to be an owner of the projects they work on, allowing team members from every level the ability to take on significant responsibilities.
This project, in particular, allowed me to develop decision-making skills, shaping the product in a way I believed would perform best in the region. It also provided an opportunity for me to showcase my research of the business and its market. Additionally, I had the chance to work alongside various teams, both local and regional, to make configuration changes where the product already existed and to take on the entire process of launching in new territories.”
Costa Rica: Brandon Vargas, Operations & Strategy Coordinator Intern
“Uber has a dynamic work environment where innovation and creativity are embraced. From day one, I felt like part of the team and valued for my contributions. What impressed me the most was the openness to propose new ideas and the opportunity to share my perspectives on key business decisions. My voice was truly valued. The team-building activities and offsites were standout moments, strengthening our team bonds and promoting a positive work environment. Uber helped me grow both personally and professionally.
If you’re seeking a challenging and innovative company, I highly recommend considering an internship at Uber. It’s been an enriching journey full of learning opportunities and I couldn’t be more grateful for the experience.”
Chile: Layquin Chau – Operations Coordinator Intern, Territory & Marketplace
“One of the most impactful experiences that I had during my internship occurred when I noticed that a process had been changed and the new outputs my team was receiving were not aligned with our strategy. I flagged this to the team and worked with them to come up with a temporary solution. In the next few months, the process was able to be fully relaunched to realign with our goals. The team was extremely grateful for my attention to detail and I was able to learn so much watching the process from beginning to end.
Moments like these during my internship taught me to trust my instincts and have confidence in my skills. I also learned that challenges and mistakes are where teams come together and reimagine for the better. This is where you can truly grow your knowledge and learn how something is built.”
