London has a rich and tasty culinary heritage, and it’s also home to some of the best food markets in the world. From seafood and cured meats right through to old cockney favorites—and everything in between—the metropolis has a little something to tantalize everyone’s taste buds. People come from far and wide for a taste of London, and if you want to sample some of the city’s culinary treasures yourself, considering calling an uberX or an uberXL to these recommended places:
Borough Market
Based next to London’s iconic South Bank, Borough Market has existed in one form or another for around 1,000 years. Today, Borough is the city’s most beloved wholesale food market, supplying produce to some of the best restaurants in the city. You can find just about everything here, including local cheeses, cured meats, fine butcher’s cuts, truffles, handmade condiments, fresh fruit and vegetables, and of course, plenty of mouthwatering hot food stalls. Walking through Borough Market is a real treat for the senses and its traditional appearance feels like stepping back a century in time. For a quick bite, get a sausage roll from the Ginger Pig, or a dozen oysters from the Wright Brothers Oyster and Porter House.

Billingsgate Market
For something a little fishy, try Billingsgate Market. As the UK’s largest and the East End’s more treasured fish market, Billingsgate is a must visit place for any seafood fanatic. The 13-acre fish emporium shifts 25,000 tonnes of produce every year, and there is every kind of aquatic creature imaginable on sale within its four walls, including Asian fish and jellied eels, a traditional cockney favorite. A hearty full English breakfast is available at the market’s rustic Shimmy’s Cafe, and if you’re looking for a real Billingsgate staple, there are stalls that sell bacon and oyster sandwiches.
Maltby Street Market
A newcomer to the London food market scene, this little gem is the place to go for street eats. Maltby Street hides under a stretch of railway arches in Bermondsey, and it’s now a preferred trading spot for some of Borough Market’s longstanding vendors. The neat yet narrow rows of pop-up pubs, street food stands, and market stalls give the market a real party vibe, and you can find pretty much any kind of dish imaginable here. The Ham and Cheese Company is a must-visit spot, and for the best food and drink in the area, visit the Ropewalk.
Alexandra Palace Farmers Market
The Farmers Market is only open on Sundays, but it’s one of the best places in the city to find homemade chutneys, juices, jams, and ciders, among other edible delights. Farmers from all over the country flock here to sell their produce to keen foodies every Sunday morning, and its friendly nature makes browsing the stalls a relaxing experience. Just a short walk up the hill Alexandra Palace—or Ally Pally—is one of London’s most iconic landmarks, and it borders Muswell Hill. After exploring the farmers market, purchasing your produce, and checking out the palace, head over to The Mossy Well in Muswell Hill from a snack, a drink, and a spot of people-watching.
