When you arrive for a pick-up and the rider has a small child or baby, It’s important that everyone is safe at all times, especially if you don’t have a car seat readily available.

There are a few things to consider.

Children must travel in the backseat

Whilst a child seat is always the best option, children can travel with you without one, but only in the backseat of your vehicle.

There are rules about seat belts

If the child is aged 3 or older they must wear an adult seat belt. If they’re under 3 they may travel without a belt.

But it’s at your discretion

Always trust your gut feeling. You know better than anyone how to keep people safe in your own car. This could mean that you decide to always have a child seat available in your vehicle.

If you don’t feel like you can all ride safely without a child seat, you can turn down the trip. But remember to be courteous and kind.

It’s important that everyone, rider and driver, feels safe on the road. If you’d like to know more, head to the Government’s official code.
