A huge thank you to GMB, our trade union partner who helped us work to bring you this dashcam partnership, and the drivers that participated in our roundtables.
Below, we’ve answered some of the top frequently asked questions about dashcams, and our partnership with Otto Car.
- Can I use dashcams when driving with Uber?
Yes - you’re free to use a dashcam whilst driving with Uber if you want to. It’s your choice. If you already use a dashcam, that’s great!
If you do not have a dashcam, and would like to hear more, speak to Otto Car about their dashcam scheme.
As the owner of the dashcam, you are the Data Controller. That means you are responsible for any footage you record. Please make sure to check and adhere to local regulations for notifying your riders including privacy and local authority requirements:

- How will the scheme work?
Down Small Otto Car will install a TfL-compliant dashcam, the Kasava KDC507, which has both inward and outward facing cameras. Otto Car will provide the camera, install it in your vehicle at one of their hubs, store the video footage on their internal systems, and provide the footage to you upon request, all for a weekly fee.
Please ensure to read the Terms and Conditions from Otto Car which includes terms of usage, privacy reminders, and payment obligations. Note that the contract is between Otto Car and yourself. Uber is not a party to this contract.
- How can I see the dashcam footage?
Down Small If you need to see the footage because a safety incident occurred on a trip, you should contact Otto Car using the details listed on their site.
You should provide Otto Car with the trip details including date, time, location, and any other identifiable information. Otto Car will then share the footage with you via email so that you can download the footage.
Footage requests are subject to Otto Car’s fair usage policy, as outlined in the contract. Uber does not have access to any footage stored by Otto Car.
- How can I submit dashcam footage to Uber after a safety incident?
Down Small In the case of a safety incident, you should inform Uber support that you have relevant dashcam footage and they will inform you of the next steps.
If you are driving with Uber in London, you can register your dashcam in the Uber Driver app to upload dashcam footage easily in the event of a safety incident. Read more here.
- What documents do I need to be able to have the dashcam installed?

- V5C Logbook or permission letter from your rental / Hiring company stating you have permission to have the dashcam installed in your vehicle
- Insurance certificate
- Driver license
- PCO badge and PCO license
- What if I am with another PCO rental but want an Otto dashcam?
