Following TfL’s announcement that it would not be renewing Uber London’s licence, many of you have questions about your future with us.
Here, we’ll give you clear, concise answers and we’ll keep updating this page as we get more information so that you’ve always got the latest news.
Remember, if you’ve got a question that isn’t answered here, you can get in touch with us via the ‘Help’ button in the app, drop into your local Greenlight Hub or attend a partner meeting, where we’ll be happy to help.
Will I be able to drive with Uber after 30th September?
Yes – you can still drive on the app. Uber will be appealing TfL’s decision and we have confirmation from TfL that we can continue to operate as usual during the appeal process, which could last several months. We will keep you updated on this throughout the process.
What is Uber doing about the licence refusal?
Uber is appealing the decision and our new CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi, has also had a constructive meeting with Transport for London. We hope to have further discussions over the coming weeks as we are determined to make things right.
How long will the appeal take?
We don’t currently have a clear timeline on the court process. However, we can expect it to take at least several months.
I’d like to show my support for the appeal. What can I do?
Thank you for your support. If you haven’t already done so, you can sign our ‘Save Your Uber’ petition on change.org.
How do I keep updated with the latest information?
We’ll be updating this page regularly with relevant information. We’ll also be keeping in touch with you via the Weekly Partner Update, emails, podcasts and messages in the app.
I’m concerned about my rental or financing contract. What should I do?
As TfL has confirmed, Uber will continue to operate whilst the appeal is in process and you can continue to use the Uber app. You will still receive weekly payments as normal.
We have spoken to all our rental partners, who are aware of the situation and will be there to support you. They understand that Uber will continue to operate during the appeal process and you will still have the opportunity to receive trips and make money during this period.
I’m thinking of signing up to another operator, should I?
We understand that this is an uncertain time and you may have questions about Uber’s future in London. Our CEO had a constructive conversation with TfL when he came to London and we hope to continue to work with TfL to make things right.
You can drive with Uber on a non–exclusive basis so it’s entirely your choice if you want to do another job or sign up to work with another operator – you can drive as much or as little with Uber as you want. If you also want to work with someone else, it doesn’t affect your partnership with us.
I wanted to attend a partner meeting, but couldn’t make it. When is the next event?
We will continue to host events around the city to keep you updated. We’ll let you know about upcoming events via email and messages in the app.
Will payments or the app be affected by the decision?
No. You will still receive your fares weekly, or can choose to cash them out when you want. If you haven’t received a payment, tap the ‘Help’ button in the app and we’ll look into it for you.
I have an Onboarding appointment booked. Should I cancel?
Uber is still onboarding new partner–drivers. With it now approaching one of the busiest times of the year.
Keep an eye out for emails and messages from us that will contain useful, relevant information regarding the TfL decision.
