Why does Uber report incidents to the Police?
At Uber, safety is a top priority. We report allegations of certain criminal offences, including details of the person making the report, to the Police. We do this in the interests of Rider and Driver Safety, and this is sometimes necessary in order for us to comply with licensing conditions which require us to proactively report such allegations. This all helps to keep our users safe.
What incidents do you report?
We will report allegations of major crimes which represent a serious safety or welfare concern. Please refer to this website for more details on UK crimes: https://www.police.uk/pu/contact-us/what-and-how-to-report/what-report/
Why do you share my details?
The Police requires Uber to share this information when Uber reports an allegation of a major crime, where there may be a risk to the reporting person and/or the wider public in the event that the report is correct. In these circumstances, it is important that the Police are able to make contact with the reporter without delay, in order to properly risk-assess the situation and to take appropriate preventative action to safeguard the public. If you prefer that Uber does not share your data, you can choose to report directly to law enforcement or the relevant licensing authority.
What data do you share when you make a report?
We share details of the reporting person which will include their name, contact number, and email address, the accused’s details and a summary of the allegation. The Police can request any additional information they need via our Public Safety Response Portal, using the relevant legal process.
How do you share the data?
Our support agents will make reports using 999, 101 or online reporting as appropriate.
For more information about how Uber processes your data, please see Uber’s Privacy Notice.
