It’s almost Easter – have you made plans yet to make to celebrate with your family and friends? If you’re struggling for ideas for how to spend the 2019 Easter holidays in Ghana, we might have a few suggestions for fun things to do in and around Accra and Kumasi.
Reveling and hilarity in Accra
Easter in Accra is a time of vibrant markets, incredible food, wonderful music and a variety of activities and events to enjoy Easter any way you want.
And what better way to celebrate with friends and family than with some fun at the beach: everyone in Accra seems to flock to Labadi Pleasure Beach on Easter, creating an energetic atmosphere that’s perfect for some real holiday reveling. Alongside, the usual spirited beach activities to enjoy and bars and restaurants to relax in, Labadi Beach Hotel will be playing host to the Yenko Festival over the Easter weekend April, 18th to 22nd.
This festival features as part of the “Year of Return” celebrations taking place across Africa, championing pan-African culture and heritage: expect exciting music performances and parties on the beach, as well as workshops on traditional African culture and dance.
If you celebrated with a beach day last year, why not try a session of stress relief by laughter at the annual Easter Comedy? As part of Accra’s Easter festivities, the Easter comedy attracts some of the funniest stand-up comedians on the continent for an evening of pure fun and good humor you won’t find anywhere else. Stay tuned for announcements on the locations and who you can expect to see at the show on April 20th.
A tranquil Easter in Kumasi
Kumasi is not as congested as Accra during the Easter holiday period, making it the perfect place for a more relaxed and personal celebration with your family or friends. Ghana’s Garden City provides access to the most scenic natural beauty of Ghana – made all the easier with the fun day trips you can take using the Uber app.
Bobiri Forest Reserve is a haven for 400 species of butterfly and the only butterfly sanctuary in West Africa. You could spend the day exploring this well-kept rainforest reserve with your loved ones – taking a long walk through this rare and natural environment before a tasty picnic would make for an excellent Easter family outing.
The serenity of Lake Bosomtwe, a short ride southeast of Kumasi, is another great locale for a peaceful and refreshing Easter weekend trip. After a relaxing day of fishing, canoeing and swimming or a boat trip, you can enjoy the lake’s quiet atmosphere and stunning vistas while having a bite to eat at one the lakeside restaurants.
Of course, if you’d just rather party on Easter, Kumasi is able to provide. For something a cooler and more exclusive than the usual street processions and celebrations, you can pick up tickets for the Sweet Part pool party at the New Royal View Hotel. Spanning all day and night on Easter Monday and featuring some of Kumasi’s hottest artists and radio DJs, the party promises to be a slick and alternative Easter extravaganza.
So, whether you’re celebrating in Accra or Kumasi – or somewhere in between – there’s plenty of fun to be had and things to do on the 2019 Easter holidays in Ghana. And no matter how you’re celebrating, picnic or party, beachside and lakeside, you can rely on us to help make the proceedings as smooth as possible.
