Here in Ghana we love to party. So, whatever your idea of a memorable time, there is sure to be an event to match your tastes. We’ve put together some suggestions for a few fun events in Ghana’s Uber cities over the next few months. Make sure to book your place, and Uber will make sure that you get there and back – safely.
Join the royal procession
The Akwasidae Festival in Kumasi is held on the grounds of the Manhiya Palace every sixth Sunday, with the next one taking place on April 21st. Join in the excitement of the gathered masses, dressed in vibrant traditional outfits, protected by ornate umbrellas. Watch the king’s regal procession in a palanquin decorated with gold jewellery, followed by a parade of traditional drummers, folk dancers, horn-blowers, and singers.
Jazz it up
If you’re a jazz lover, you’ll be happy to know that one of the very popular events in Accra, the annual Live in Accra Jazz Festival at the Alliance Francaise is back from April 27th to May 4th 2019. This week-long festival promises a spectacular mix of local and international artistes, concerts, workshops, and a fair. The opening concert will feature the sensational South African singer and songwriter Pilani Bubu backed by the GH Jazz Collective.
Mix business with pleasure
Combine shopping and networking at the 5th Women’s Expo hosted in Accra by the Alliance Francaise on May 3rd and 4th. The two-day exhibition is market for women entrepreneurs to meet, shop and exhibit themselves if they choose. Brows a variety of products, from jewellery and clothing to fine art and pottery. Other events lined-up to enjoy are a fashion show, beauty and hair care demos, spa and massage services, relationship counselling, cocktail bars, cooking and baking demos, and various DIY workshops.
Get creative with local art
There’s no better place in Ghana to get involved with the local art scene than in Accra, with countless art galleries featuring exhibitions ranging from celebrations of Ghana’s cultural and artistic heritage to the cutting-edge of modern pan-African art. If that sounds exciting, one gallery to check out in particularly is Gallery 1975. Opened in 2016, the gallery is Accra’s one and only dedicated modern art gallery, working both locally and internationally to present the talents of Ghana’s artists, with frequent exhibitions at the gallery and art fairs in cities across the world. Stay tuned for announcements on future exhibitions.
From business exhibitions to world-class music and cultural festivals, there’s plenty to be getting on with in Accra and Kumasi – and of course, we’ll help you get there. Be sure to diarise your favourite events, and remember: the most reliable and affordable way to get there is to request a ride with us.
