Today, we’re excited to announce the launch of uberASSIST in Hong Kong – a new option designed to provide additional assistance to seniors and members of the community with disabilities. With just a tap of a button, those needing an extra hand can request safe, reliable, and convenient rides at affordable uberX prices.
uberASSIST services are provided by top-rated and experienced driver-partners who have been trained in a course delivered by the SAHK Institute of Rehabilitation Practice, Hong Kong Blind Union, and Silence. Through both theory and practical training, these driver-partners learn the necessary knowledge and safety requirements to help people with different accessibility needs— including how to assist riders into vehicles to accommodating folding wheelchairs, walkers, and scooters.
“Accessible transportation is critical to ensuring that those with disabilities and the elderly can be active, independent, fulfilled members of society… we applaud Uber’s efforts to develop an additional, affordable option for these traditionally underserved communities, and we were happy to help thoroughly train the driver-partners on how to best welcome and aid those with accessibility needs.”
— Willy Kwong, Centre Head of Silence
“Technology and innovation have significantly improved many aspects of life for those with disabilities. With uberASSIST, senior citizens and those with disabilities can more easily participate in and integrate into the society enjoy life to its fullest.”
