Uber loves celebrating cities, and what better way to do it than launch four at once! On the 19th of August, India woke up to the news of Uber launching simultaneously in Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Jaipur and Kolkata. With this first of a kind Quadruple Launch, Uber India is now in 10 cities and is the largest market for Uber outside the US (by number of operational cities). What’s more interesting is that all this has happened in less than a year! Our first cars rolled out on 29th August, 2013 in Bangalore, and there began our love story with this amazing nation. Our riders and partners have welcomed Uber with open arms, and we have only grown from strength to strength since.

The hunt for our secret Ubers began early, with millions pulling out their smartphones, eager to experience Uber in their hometowns. We had Rider Zeros pouring in from all parts of the country, in true chhappad-phad-ke sense. The East was up early and jumped in on the action soon! Konkona Sen (Actor) and Shaan (Playback Singer) heard the news and hit that request button within nano-seconds of each other. With seamless finesse, their Ubers arrived at Park Street and Ballygunge to sweep them off in style.

ShaanIn the far far West we caught a glimpse of Anupam Kher (Actor, Producer) at the SG Highway in Ahmedabad, as he was about to skip town for a shoot. Up north, it was a regular Tuesday for Punjab da Puttar Gaurav Kapur (TV Anchor) until he heard the news of Uber’s arrival in Chandigarh. Before one could say ‘lassi-shassi’, he had whipped open his smartphone and had an Uber on its way to the banks of Sukhna lake. In the Pink City of Jaipur, while the tourists slept, we also caught a glimpse of Purab Kohli (TV Anchor) scurrying away in his sleek sedan.

Fotor081905858Uber India started off as an idea that faced innumerable obstacles in the sub-continent, and is today a shining example of what a talented group of individuals can accomplish. We’re over 25 strong and are still in the hunt for rockstar candidates. If you’re the ONE, please visit uber.com/jobs and make some noise!

Today we celebrate Uber India, and would like you all to spread the joy we feel for being here. If you’re new to Uber, please download our app, sign up using the promo code ‘UBERLOVESINDIA’ and get 3 free rides worth Rs. 200 each (New users only, Valid until 30th September, 2014). During our testing phase we will have limited cars available; expect longer ETAs than usual. As they say, please ‘adjust’. We are working hard to add cars across all four cities and deliver the ultimate Uber experience. Don’t forget to check out our Twitter handles (Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Kolkata) to see what we’re up to. We’re all ears and would love your feedback.

Jai Hind!
