Uber is raising the bar for drivers in India, unveiling new features that focus on safety, ease of use, and fairness to support over 1 million drivers who rely on the platform for flexible earning opportunities. These updates come as part of Uber’s commitment to continually enhance the driver experience, making driving with Uber more rewarding and secure.

Safer Driving Experience

Uber has launched industry-first safety features to provide additional security and confidence to drivers:

  • Helmet Selfie Verification: Two-wheeler drivers will now be prompted to take a selfie with their helmet on before each trip, reinforcing road safety and aligning with government guidelines for safer roads.
  • Women Rider Preference: Female drivers can now match exclusively with female riders, especially helpful during late hours, creating a safer, more comfortable experience.
  • Audio Recording: Drivers can activate audio recording if they feel uncomfortable during a trip. These encrypted recordings are stored securely and can only be accessed if submitted for a safety report, offering peace of mind without compromising privacy.

Easier Earnings and Flexibility

Uber is introducing features that make earnings and onboarding more accessible:

  • Upfront Tipping: Riders can add a tip before a trip, encouraging faster matches and boosting driver earnings, especially during peak hours.
  • Instant Payments: Drivers can now instantly cash out earnings up to four times a day, giving them quick access to their income in just seconds.
  • Mentorship Program: New drivers are paired with experienced mentors who offer guidance on app functionality and market insights, helping newcomers feel confident on the platform.

Transparent and Fair Processes

Uber has revamped its processes to offer more transparency and empower drivers:

  • Earnings Hub: A clearer, more transparent breakdown of weekly earnings shows drivers their share, Uber’s portion, and local taxes, reinforcing Uber’s commitment to transparency.
  • Deactivation Review Center: Drivers can now appeal deactivations directly in the app if they believe they’re treated unfairly

Supporting Social Security

Aligned with India’s Code on Social Security, Uber is also supporting driver registrations on the e-Shram portal, a national database for gig and unorganized workers. To encourage sign-ups, Uber is offering cash incentives to the first 10,000 drivers who register, helping drivers secure future social benefits.

These updates reflect Uber’s dedication to creating a platform where drivers feel safe, supported, and fairly compensated. As Uber continues to listen to and act on driver feedback, the focus remains on delivering a flexible work experience that is safer, easier, and fairer for all.
