After working in consulting and tech in New York, Swedish native Natasha Bardin-Patel returned to Europe joining Uber Eats in London. Today she’s part of our UK Operations team leading the local growth of Uber One, our subscription program offering £0 Delivery Fee, promos and exclusive perks. “It’s been really interesting to navigate and build the program around what our members value most,” she shares below.
Tell us about yourself
“Originally from Sweden, I spent 6.5 years in New York studying business and working in consulting and tech. In 2020, I moved to London to join Uber Eats and today I lead Membership, called Uber One, in the UK.
I love food – from cooking (big Alison Roman fan), to trying new restaurants, and even traveling to find new local recipes and foods (most recently on the Isle of Skye in Scotland). When I joined Uber Eats, I was really excited to work for a company with a product I use on such a regular basis and could make a direct impact on.”
How was the switch from Consulting to a Tech company?
“Consulting was a great foundation to kickstart my career. I was lucky to have diverse client and industry exposure, work with small teams and have great mentors who exposed me to stakeholder management and professionalism early in my career. The regular movement between projects and industries helped me to quickly adapt to tech where priorities are constantly changing and flexibility and agility are key.
It took some time to adapt to the amount of ownership within tech, particularly at Uber. I went from teams of 5-6 people at minimum solving for the same challenge to navigating significant business challenges and targets independently which quickly accelerated my learning curve and career development.”
Tell us about the Central Operations team and how you support Uber Eats’ mission in the UK?
“The Operations team builds solutions for challenges and opportunities within our three-sided business, from couriers to merchants to eaters, ensuring they have the best possible experience on our platform. This can range from topics like safety to engagement, compliance, pricing and experience. I’ve been lucky enough to have worked on most of these teams during my 3.5 years at Uber, which has been a huge perk of a dynamic workplace and supportive management.
Today, I lead Uber One, our subscription program offering £0 Delivery Free, promos and exclusive perks on both Uber and Uber Eats. Uber One has been an incredible career milestone for me since I worked on the design of the program, market launch and continued program growth with teams from every single part of the business. As an avid Uber user, it’s especially exciting to work on a product that integrates Uber and Uber Eats – shameless plug to sign up and take advantage of our free trial.”
What are the most interesting operational challenges you need to solve in the UK?
“In today’s cost of living crisis, consumer spending is a challenge we always have at the top of mind. Membership helps us to get closer to our most loyal customers by providing a program to save money and get more value within and outside of the Uber ecosystem. It’s been really interesting to navigate and build the program around what our members value most: which ranges from Uber Eats order and Uber ride-level savings to weekly free items, and even free cinema tickets!”
What’s your go-to Uber Eats order in London?
“Honest Burgers buffalo chicken wings are unmatched – if you haven’t tried them yet, it’s a must!”
