Uber Kenya recently held a safety-themed summit which was attended by the amazing female driver-partners of Nairobi. The event was endorsed by the Automobile Association, as well as the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.
We wanted to show our appreciation for the UberWOMEN who move Kenya forward by bringing them together to connect and share their collective experiences. By providing these driver-partners with the tools to improve their personal safety on the road, we also hoped to encourage them to always be aware of their surroundings.
The line-up of speakers each brought something unique to the audience, and it was an absolute pleasure to have such a diverse group of people in one room. Conrad Thorpe, CEO of security company Salama Fikira, provided a practical training session on safety, while Jane Gitonga, Head of Partnerships at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, gave an insightful talk on the right to vote.
Practical tips regarding safety on the road were provided by Ruth Njeri, the Director General of the Automobile Association of Kenya, while media personality Gladys Gachanga encouraged everyone to always celebrate female entrepreneurship.
We would like to thank everyone – from the attendees to the leaders in the transport and safety industry – for sharing their ideas, research and tips on the larger conversation of female safety on the road in Kenya.
