Operations may not be the first word that comes to mind when starting an internship search. But at Uber, it means people with all kinds of talents worldwide that manage our business. The specifics of that? Well, it depends on which team you’re in. It could be a local team that focuses on one country, a regional team that covers all of Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), or even a global team. Your internship could be in the world of Uber, Uber Eats, or across both.
Our Operations Interns have a wide range of educational backgrounds, from management, to psychology, to data analytics and even engineering. As long as solving business problems using data is exciting to you, an Operations Internship may just be what you didn’t know you were looking for! Below, explore Operations at Uber from an intern alumni, intern mentor and intern manager from 3 different cities working across 3 different teams.
Gisella Perlingieri
Global Operations Manager – Hailables (Rides) | Intern Alumni
Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Tell us about yourself.
“I’m a Master in Management graduate from Italy. I joined Uber in March 2022 as an Operations Intern on our Global Hailables team. Fast forward to today, I am now an Operations Manager on the same team.”
Explain your job to a 5-year old.
“I make sure that anyone who needs a ride or wants to earn with Uber can easily do that, through a Taxi, TukTuk or Moto.”
What attracted you to Uber?
“Keen to keep working in tech, I was looking for my next challenge and had heard great things about Uber. A global, innovative company like Uber is quite unique. I hoped that I would get to be part of something bigger here, and I was right!”
Can you share some highlights of your internship project?
“The Hailables team is responsible for setting an all-encompassing strategy for its global portfolio, overlooking different operations worldwide related to specific categories of products: Uber Taxi, Moto and TukTuks. Growing Hailables means ensuring local markets have the resources and tools needed to deliver on their growth plans and build a financially sustainable business.
I got to work with numerous stakeholders around the world, from central and local operations teams and across different cross-functional ones, making sure we design scalable initiatives, across operations, marketing, product and policy. One of the most exciting aspects of the work is analyzing marketplaces, recognizing the different market nuances and from there thinking and discussing different solutions specifically tailored to Taxi, Auto and Moto, to make the e-hailing experience as optimal as possible, in every part of the world!”
How did your internship support your career growth?
“At Uber, you own your work from day one. I joined as an Operations Intern, and got the chance to grow in my team, and was recently promoted to Operations Manager. Being exposed to so many different teams gave me the opportunity to learn about every different aspect of our business, from both a rider and driver perspective. During my time at Uber, I have seen my team growing 3x. Growth is real and it’s rewarding to see how that is recognized in the company.”
Any advice for students aspiring to become an Uber Intern?
“Show enthusiasm and don’t be afraid to ask questions. At Uber, we like to be challenged and that’s part of the game. Don’t expect to have all of the answers, but showing a good understanding of the problem can get you in the right direction, and don’t forget to enjoy the ride!”
Evelyne Lin
Operations Coordinator, France (Rides) | Intern Alumni & Mentor
Paris, France
Tell us about yourself.
“I’m part of the French Driver Operations team in Paris focusing on driver experience and engagement. I graduated a few months ago with a Master in Management.”
Explain your job to a 5-year old.
“I help drivers have a good time driving people around and make sure they can do it in the easiest way possible.”
What’s the best part in working in local operations?
“During my internship, I had the chance to work on various topics including our Uber Pro Program, working on new drivers’ experience in the app but most importantly, I was able to help my team launch Uber Taxi in France. Later on, I was able to organize roundtables with newly onboarded drivers who were using the service, collected their feedback and had the ownership to utilize those to make their experience better. This is the most gratifying part of my job—hearing their feedback, act upon them, and seeing the impact of all the features and partnerships we roll out to make sure drivers have the best possible experience with Uber.”
As an intern alumni, how has that helped you in mentoring new interns?
“Being an intern gave me valuable insights and knowledge about Uber’s company’s culture, goals, and the amazing opportunities it offers. This experience allowed me to understand the challenges and aspirations of new interns.
For my very first intern, I made sure to create a welcoming and supportive atmosphere, just like the one that helped me flourish during my internship by organizing weekly meetings with her to keep track of her progress and check in on how she was feeling.”
Being an intern mentor, what makes Uber’s internship program unique?
“Uber’s internship program provides interns with hands-on, real-world experiences that are both challenging and incredibly rewarding. Interns are given meaningful and impactful projects that have a direct impact on Uber’s mission and goals.
Uber places a strong emphasis on mentorship and learning. As an intern mentor, I’ve witnessed firsthand the dedication to nurturing talent and fostering growth. The open and collaborative culture at Uber encourages interns to ask questions, seek guidance, and explore their interests. This creates a dynamic learning environment where curiosity is not only welcomed but celebrated.
Uber’s internship program offers a fantastic platform for networking and building lasting connections. Interns have the opportunity to engage with professionals from various departments and levels of the company, gaining valuable insights and expanding their professional network.
Overall, Uber’s internship program is a place where learning, growth, and innovation thrive. It’s an environment that challenges interns to reach their full potential while providing them with the support and resources they need to succeed.”

When I am not at work, you’ll find me very likely eating pasta, doing HIITs or having long reading sessions.”
Explain your job to a 5 year old.
“I make sure hungry eaters around Germany can order food from the best local restaurants.”
Tell us about launching Uber Eats in Germany.
“For me personally it’s the déjà vu! Launching Rides and Uber Eats in the most prominent German cities by bringing to life the product and testing the service is a unique experience. There are tons of fun stories, memories and pictures which are privileged to the Launch and Expansion rockstars.”
Your intern is returning to Uber for a full-time role, what’s the best part about Uber’s internship program?
“Definitely the structure and duration for managers and interns. On the Launch and Expansion team, we experienced it first hand by maximizing the learnings and impact of the internship. We developed strategies and processes with the creative approach of our intern that have now become a playbook for future launches. And I am so excited to welcome her back now that she has finished her studies!”
Any advice for students aspiring to become an Uber Intern?
“Demonstrate grit and high energy during your interview. When you’re challenged, land your argument well. We know that students come with less experience. This is why we look for talented people who are keen to tackle any challenge and demonstrate that during the interview process.”
