Every day, driver-partners across Africa bring people closer to where they need to be. And, every day, we’re committed to keeping them safe on their journey.
This year has given us the opportunity to think about how Uber’s features and technology can best serve you while on the road. The result is an app that is built around you – prioritising your safety before, during, and after every trip. In case you missed them, here’s a recap of all the new in-app safety features and technology improvements we introduced in 2017:

Long trip notification
Drivers are notified through the app when a long trip has been requested, which will help them decide if they want to accept it or not. No more surprises!

Paid wait time
Starting at 5 minutes after arrival, riders will pay a per minute rate to drivers waiting for the trip to begin.

Ratings protection
Drivers will no longer receive a negative rating for factors beyond their control - this includes traffic or an issue with the app.

Share your trip details
Just as riders can share their trip status with a loved one, drivers will now also be able to let friends and family track their trip.

Set your destination and arrival time
Set a preferred arrival time for each destination and we’ll help you reach it on time.

In-app chat
Did you know that drivers and riders can communicate directly through the app? Simply choose to chat or call.
This is not the end by any means – stay tuned as we continue to make more improvements that work for you.
