Uber Eats: In-person ID checks

At Uber, we know you’re dedicated to delivering both meals and smiles, one order at a time. To ensure everyone’s safety and keep things running smoothly, it’s crucial that each delivery is completed by the person registered on the Uber Eats courier account. As of 29th April 2024, we will begin with in-person ID verifications to  support both the courier and the restaurant community for the prevention and detection of potential fraud and account abuse.

Like you, we want to make sure that meals are only delivered by registered couriers and that you can earn in a fair way.

FAQs:

1. How will the verifications occur?

One of our trained experts may approach you when you are arriving at a restaurant to pick-up your order. They will be asking for your consent in conducting the verification and if you consent, conduct the check in 4 minutes.

2. What if I don’t consent to the verification?

We are required to verify your identity and Right to Work as you are delivering on the Uber Eats platform. Therefore, if you do not consent to the verification we will have to temporarily deactivate your account. We may give you an option to our appeal process and schedule a follow-up in-person ID verification with our experts, however, this is not guaranteed. 

3. What if I don’t have my ID with me?

If you do not have your ID with you at the restaurant, your account will be temporarily waitlisted, until we can successfully verify your ID. We may give you an option to our appeal process and schedule a follow-up in-person ID verification with our experts, however, this is not guaranteed. 

To complete the ID checks smoothly, we request you to always have your ID with you when you are delivering via Uber Eats. Please note a drivers licence will not be considered as a valid ID for the verifications. 

4. My ID has already been successfully checked during onboarding, do these verifications replace previous ones?

These in-person ID checks are in addition to the various verification steps that you’re used to.

5. What happens if I fail the verification?

As per national legislation, we are required to deactivate your account immediately if you fail the in-person ID verifications. At Uber we have a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to fraud and stand for the safety of all users of our platform.

6. What happens if I pass the verification?

If you successfully pass the verification there will be no changes to your account, you will be able to continue to your live order and claim a free drink, on us!

7. What happens to my live order during the verification? 

If you successfully pass the verification you will be able to continue with your live order as you normally do. If you fail the verification, your live order will be cancelled upon your account being immediately deactivated.
