It’s official! Uber has a brand new home in Amsterdam at Tripolis-Park built with wellness, sustainability, and collaboration in mind. Our new office is home to over 1,100 employees and every team has a presence here. To learn more about our new office, we sat down with Sjoukje ten Berge, who leads facilities across the site to explore some of her favorite spaces, amenities, and hidden gems.
Where is Uber’s new Amsterdam office?
“Our office—called Tripolis-Park—is in the South of Amsterdam next to the Olympic stadium and in the Zuidas business district. It’s one of the best-connected hubs in the city and easily accessible for local, regional, national and international visitors alike. In true Amsterdam style, biking into the office is a popular means of transport for our teams.”
What teams are based in Tripolis?
“Tripolis is both Uber’s EMEA headquarters and an important tech and talent hub. That means every team has a presence here and we have a specific focus on Engineering. Teams range from Business Operations to Finance, and from Legal to Marketing. We work both locally and globally, building products available on our platform around the world as well as on specific projects and initiatives for EMEA.”
What was the office design based on?
“The Tripolis complex consists of three towers which were designed by architect Aldo van Eyck. The guiding principle for the design was to protect and embrace these existing iconic towers, while adding a new building called Het Venster.
The office consists of 2 interconnected buildings, 10 floors, and many bridges to connect the two. The first is Toren building, an existing monumental building with 6 floors and many green roof terraces. The second is Venster building, a new space built over the top of part of Toren and along the edge of the A10 highway.
Special attention was paid to sustainability following both the BREEAM certification and the International WELL Building Standard. BREEAM recognizes the building for energy and water efficiency, reduction of harmful materials and construction waste, pollution reduction (noise, air, water, land or light), health and wellbeing enhancements, protection and sustainable use of land and building operations. WELL certification means the building’s design and operations, in alignment with Uber’s policies, prioritize optimizing the workplace for total employee wellbeing.”
What’s your favorite space?
“I love the four pavilions on the roof terraces. They are the perfect spot to work in a peaceful environment with an amazing view. Teams also use them for brainstorm sessions and casual catch-ups.”
What’s your favorite feature?
“Another favorite of mine is our new reception area. It’s a beautiful open space situated on top of one of the existing buildings integrated into the new Venster building. It means you are on top of a roof terrace but indoors.”
What’s your favorite amenity?
“We have so many great amenities, but two stand out. Our restaurant has an excellent food program and is a versatile space that can be used for work, meetings, and events. Our wellness area features a yoga room, library, and more, providing employees with an opportunity to take a well-deserved break and recharge.”
What’s next as we continue to grow?
“Our main goal is to optimize our workspace and fully embrace the hybrid work model in our new office. We want to go beyond just workstations and have created spaces that spark collaboration, creativity, and make our employees feel good. The Workplace team is here to guide and support our colleagues as they navigate this flexible way of working. Our aim is to boost productivity, keep our employees healthy and happy, and stay ahead in the ever-changing business world.”
