Information for driving during the world’s highly-anticipated football tournament in Doha
November 4, 2022 / QatarWe’re here to help you plan ahead for smoother pick ups and drop offs at the different football tournament stadiums, as well as other sites across Doha.
The World’s Biggest Football Tournament
- Over the next month, 64 football matches will be taking place across Doha as part of the most anticipated sporting event of the year.
- The matches will begin on Sunday, November 20, 2022 and end with the match taking place on Sunday, December 18, 2022.
- There are 8 stadiums hosting the football matches:
- The full schedule of event times and locations can be found on the tournament’s website.
- You can use Uber’s in-app navigation and/or follow signs near the stadiums for directions to designated pick up and drop off areas if you wish to do so. For additional details, you can visit the Supreme Committee’s transportation website.
Special Earnings Opportunities
- Increased Demand: It’s anticipated that, with tens of thousands of visitors in town for the tournament, there will be a higher demand for rides over the month – especially at the stadiums within 2 hours of the football matches ending.
- Changes to in-app recommended fare: As instructed by the Ministry of Transportation in Qatar, from November 20 till December 18, a stadium surcharge of QAR 20 will be added to trip fares for all stadium pickups and dropoffs. This stadium surcharge is remitted to drivers.
Driving on Uber at other events
- With festivities taking place all over the City, it’s expected that many properties will have special zones for pick ups and drop offs. You can use the Driver App for navigation to get the most updated directions and road closures, if you wish to do so.
Safety first
- Smoother trips: Reminder to observe standard traffic laws and follow the directions of parking staff, police officers, and directional signs around stadiums.
- Communicating with your rider: Given the volume of people expected to be leaving the stadiums, you may want to contact your rider through the in-app chat once you arrive in the designated lot, to help them find you.
- Identity check: It may be helpful to confirm your rider’s name to ensure the right person who requested the trip is getting in your vehicle.
- Pick up with confidence: We’ve got safety features in place to keep everyone feeling secure on every ride.
- You may be asked to enter a PIN from your rider before a trip which will help you verify that it’s the right person.
- You can enable RideCheck, which will prompt both you and the rider to confirm everything is OK during the trip.
- If you’re in an emergency situation, you can call emergency services directly from the Uber app by tapping the blue safety shield icon.
- Something left on the back seat: If you notice an item left in your vehicle, please contact us immediately and we’ll try to connect you with the rider so you can arrange a mutually convenient time and place to return it – and please keep it safe until it’s returned.
- 2-way ratings: Your feedback matters. Low-rated trips are logged, and users may be removed to protect the Uber community.
- Avoid tickets: Picking up and dropping off riders in restricted areas may result in a citation from law enforcement. The driver is solely responsible for any and all payments for citations incurred by the driver as a result of any and all Qatar road rule violations.
- Keep your account safe:
- Uber support will never ask you for your password or account details.
- Never reveal your email, phone number, credit card details, or authentication code through in-app messaging.
- If anyone contacts you through in-app messaging trying to obtain any of these details, please report it in the Uber app’s help and support feature.
- Local Law Enforcement: In an emergency situation, you can contact Qatar law enforcement by dialing 999.
