Uber is the perfect place to start and grow your career—no matter where you are or what your experience level is. Below, meet Ranna, Lucas R., Gabriella, Giovana, Lucas D., and Igor, a few of our Sao Paulo-based Uber interns, as they discuss the exciting challenges, responsibilities, and inclusive culture that empowers them to gain valuable real-world experience and thrive at Uber.
What has been the most meaningful moment of your internship so far?
“I faced a significant challenge during the start of my internship, as I needed to familiarize myself with new programming languages and tools that I had not used before, in addition to understanding the specific architecture and processes of Uber itself. This learning curve, however, was extremely motivating, as I was able to expand my knowledge immensely, acquire valuable new skills, and can now contribute effectively to the tasks and challenges faced daily by my team.”
–Ranna Raabe da Costa, Software Engineering Intern
Any tips for someone who wants to start their career at Uber?
“Be flexible and embrace change! You must be willing to experience shifts in the scope of your projects and tasks. You cannot think of your work as static. Change helps you grow and pushes your original ideas toward exciting new outcomes and results. Also, the journey is half the fun! Process changes will allow you to learn how to adapt, develop your skills in ways you might not have thought of before, and prepare you for success much more than obtaining a simple and quick result.”
–Lucas Rodrigues Tojeiro Esteves, Strategy & Planning Intern
What was your Uber interview experience like?
“Without a doubt, my internship interview process at Uber was one of the best selection processes I’ve ever participated in. This was due to the dynamic and friendly way in which it was conducted, from the online testing stage to the final stage, which involved having conversations with different managers across Uber. Despite the final stage being the one I was most nervous for, the contagious excited energy in each of my conversations kept me very calm, resolved any of my doubts, and gave me the certainty that I would have amazing coworkers and mentors who would always be willing to help me grow and contribute to my professional development.”
–Gabriella Ferreira, LatAm Operations Intern, Rider
Tell us a little about your area of focus and your day-to-day here at the company.
“As a Software Engineering Intern on the Safety team, I have the opportunity to learn about and contribute to initiatives for the Uber Eats app globally. One of my favorite parts about working at Uber is our global collaboration! We truly build locally and scale globally. In my day-to-day life, I work freely on my team’s various ongoing projects, similar to a full-time software engineer, which has provided me with independence and curiosity regarding code development and problem-solving.”
–Giovana Daniele da Silva, Software Engineering Intern
Tell us a little about your area of focus and day-to-day here at the company.
“I’m an Operations Intern inside our Marketplace team. My day-to-day involves monitoring the cities in Brazil where we operate, noting whether our operations in certain markets are efficient. I do a lot of analysis and help to create plans to maintain or improve our operations in several cities. My favorite part about my internship is that I have a lot of interaction with different teams across Uber all over the world, which has added a lot to my professional and personal development.”
Lucas Dornellas, Operations Intern
How would you describe the internship program here at Uber?
“This is my very first internship and my experience has been sensational. The team I work with guides me to be my best version every day (both personally and professionally). My manager provides constant feedback on my work and has truly become a mentor. With each passing month, I feel like a year has passed because I evolve and learn so much from one month to the next.”
