Auto Insurance Maintained by Uber

We want you to have peace of mind even if the unexpected happens. When you drive or deliver with Uber, we maintain auto insurance on your behalf. By teaming up with top national auto insurance companies, we’re continuing our commitment to keep you covered and help you feel protected on the road ahead.

Changes from one insurer to another

Every year we renew the commercial auto insurance maintained on your behalf, and this year the insurance carrier in your state may have changed. Use the map below or the Insurance hub in the Driver app to see which carrier insures you while you drive or deliver with the Uber platform.

When you are insured*

From the moment you tap GO to wait for a trip request, to while you’re driving to pick up a rider or goods, and until the trip ends, you’re insured as a driver or delivery person on the Uber app.

* This applies to drivers who operate under the Rideshare Peer-to-Peer model using their personal vehicles. This does not apply to drivers who are commercially licensed and insured, and operating with the Driver app using a limousine, livery vehicle, black car, private-hire vehicle, or vehicle licensed by the New York City TLC.

Insurance coverage while driving with Uber

Chart outlining Uber rideshare driver insurance coverage at different stages: when the app is off, only personal auto insurance applies; when the app is on and the driver is available, Uber provides third-party liability coverage ($50,000 per person, $100,000 per accident, $25,000 property damage); when en route to pick up a rider or on a trip, Uber provides $1,000,000 third-party liability, uninsured/underinsured motorist bodily injury, and contingent comprehensive and collision coverage (up to actual cash value of car with $2,500 deductible).

What to do if you’re involved in a crash

If you’re involved in a crash while driving with Uber, you can report it to Uber first. Our claims support team will guide you through the claims process. There’s no need to report to your personal insurance company.
