Uber South Africa Update

To our community of drivers and partners

I have made a difficult decision to leave Uber after 7 years. Uber has been a large part of my life, and I consider myself lucky to have had this experience.

I proudly remember our first information sessions in 2013 and I am grateful that many of you who were at those sessions are still partnering with Uber today. I have met so many more of you over the years and I always leave our interactions feeling energised and optimistic. Thank you for trusting us and thank you for your passion in helping to build the Uber brand across the continent. Please never forget that you are changing the way that our cities move. You’re giving South Africans the freedom and flexibility to go out when and where they want to safely.

I know that it is very difficult at the moment but we are already seeing the business recover from the toughest period. I am incredibly confident in our business’ ability to grow stronger from here (and stronger than ever before), We have faced difficult situations before and we always emerge stronger, this will be no different. We have also been engaging with the Government and as they have said publicly, we expect details about e-hailing specific relief to be released soon.  I also hope that you had the opportunity to redeem the vouchers from Boxer stores.

I know I also often hear from some of you when our customer support doesn’t work in the way that it should. I wanted to assure you that our team is committed to ensuring that all your issues are resolved as quickly as possible and that there won’t be a need for any escalations. I also wanted to let you know that our Greenlight Hubs are in the process of reopening and to remind you of our customer support number 0800 172 957 for any queries.

Frans Hiemstra, who has been with Uber for almost 5 years, will move into a role of General Manager for SSA. Frans along with his strong team is devoted to ensuring Uber remains a leading brand across the region. The team is here to support you and grow our businesses together.

Thank you for everything, stay safe and Uber always.
