#UberGIVING – you rode, you raised!

UberGIVING is a ‘give-back’ programme that was launched in 2015, which involves us contributing a portion of trips each month, to a non-profit organisation. This means that riders are contributing to a worthy cause by simply requesting a ride!

The Reach for a Dream Foundation was the first beneficiary to receive a donation from UberGIVING. This donation assisted in making dreams come true for many sick children who are fighting life-threatening illnesses such as cancer, cystic fibrosis and muscular dystrophy.

Thanks to the Reach for a Dream Foundation and UberGIVING, Elihle Momoza, a 12 year old boy with a blood disorder, who has a passion for soccer was able to visit Moses Mabhida stadium for the first time and also received a PlayStation console and football games.

Faith Nifang, an 8 year old boy with Sickle Cell Anaemia fulfilled his special dream of a day at the beach by spending a wonderful weekend at Sun City, where he thoroughly enjoyed the playground activities and the waves at the Valley of the Waves. Our General Manager for Sub-Saharan Africa, Alon Lits described “the magnitude of his smile said it all that day! We are honoured to be associated with Reach for a Dream, helping to assist children like Faith and Elihle.” These are just some of the dreams that were made possible through UberGIVING and Reach for a Dream Foundation.

Due to the success of UberGIVING, we have also been able to assist other NPO’s such Tomorrow Trust, who made it possible for Mahlogonolo Pasha to continue with her BSc Life and Environmental Sciences studies at the University of Johannesburg. Mahlogonolo is one of five children raised by a single mother who is currently unemployed. Pasha’s dream is to become the first university graduate in her family in order to end the cycle of poverty in her family and community.

Also a beneficiary of UberGIVING is the Els for Autism Foundation. In 2009 Ernie and Liezl Els discovered that their son Ben was severely affected by autism and established the Els for Autism Foundation, with the goal of funding an Autism Centre of Excellence. The aim was to create a service that would allow lower-resourced families of children on the spectrum free access to evidence-based interventions. We were honoured to be able to provide a substantial donation to an such an effective cause.
