Driving at Christchurch International Airport (CHC)

To receive trip requests to and from the airport, you’ll need to review and agree to the Christchurch Airport Terms and Conditions. Earners will receive a notification via the Uber Driver app with more information.

Rules and regulations

Picking up from Christchurch Airport

To receive trip requests, make your way to the designated waiting area at 20 Ron Guthrey Road. You will be placed in a virtual queue, which means that Earners who have been waiting the longest will get requests first. You will only receive trip requests when you are inside the waiting area.

Uber Earners must pick-up riders from the Ride Share Designated Pick-up and Drop-off Zone, located on Durey Road.

How pickups work at Christchurch Airport

1. Enter the virtual queue

Place yourself in the airport queue by heading to the designated waiting area located at 20 Ron Guthrey Road. The designated waiting area is the only location where driver-partners can receive trip requests. Trips will be received by driver-partners on a first in, first out basis, meaning driver-partners who have been waiting the longest get requests first.

2. Accept a trip request and head to the airport terminal

Once you are at the front of the queue, you will receive the next available trip request. In order to meet your rider, drive towards the airport along Ron Guthrey Road and take a left onto Memorial Ave and then onto Durey Road, following the directions in your Driver app towards the rideshare pick-up and drop-off zone. Once parked, keep an eye out for your rider.

3. Locate your rider and exit the airport

Once your rider is in your car, you can begin the trip just as you normally would. To exit the airport, continue down Durey Road and make a left turn onto Perimeter Road.

Fees at Christchurch Airport

Christchurch Airport requires that all driver-partners picking up or dropping off riders to pay a $5.50 fee. This is in line with the fee charged by Christchurch Airport to other small passenger services providing pick-ups and drop-offs. The fee will be automatically added to your Riders fare for any trips that involve pickups or drop-offs at Christchurch Airport, so you will not be out of pocket. Collection of this fee from Earners on behalf of Christchurch Airport, and payment to Christchurch Airport, will be handled by Uber; you will not be required to pay anything directly to the Airport.

If you are a GST-registered Earner, you should be able to claim the GST component of the per-trip airport fee. To understand more about airport fees and how they should be reflected in your tax return, you can contact your tax advisor, or Woohoo, a company that offers discounted tax services to partners as part of the Momentum Rewards program.
