Senior Software Engineer - UberEats
About the Role
Uber Eats has evolved beyond just restaurants to serve use cases like grocery, retail, and many more, around the world.
We are looking for a strong product-focused, senior full-stack engineer who will be responsible for developing new Consumer experiences on the Uber Eats app. The ideal candidate will be able to operate as a tech lead on one or more of our product surfaces, leading a team of engineers to help consumers better navigate the different options on our platform and support the scalable growth of our ecosystem.
This role will involve working with stakeholders to identify and define product requirements, translating these into technical designs, and then working with other engineers to implement and release these features.
What the Candidate Will Do
- Work as a full-stack engineer on Uber Eats
- Design, develop, and maintain user-facing features end-to-end using Web and Backend technologies
- Act as a tech lead and mentor for software engineers.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to the development of engineering best practices
- Debug and troubleshoot complex issues across multiple systems
- Collaborate with other teams to identify and resolve system bottlenecks
Basic Qualifications
6+ years of experience in a relevant role.
Previous experience working on full-stack development including front-end web experience and API design
- Strong demonstrated experience with web technologies like HTML, CSS, Javascript, Typescript
- Comfortable working in a framework-free environment, focusing on raw, vanilla code with Custom Elements (Web Components).
- Experience with Java, Golang, Python or any similar backend languages.
- Engineering experience in hands-on software development with thoughtfulness of scale, latency and distributed architecture
- Strong communication skills, experience working with stakeholders including product managers, design and user research
- Ability to learn new technologies and frameworks quickly
Preferred Qualifications
- 8+ years of software development experience
- Consistent track record of results Tech-Leading a team of engineers
- Previous experience with front-end frameworks such as React, Angular, etc is a plus
- Previous experience with front-end frameworks such as Django, Rails, Spring, etc
- Experience working on consumer experiences across a range of platforms and use-cases
- Previous experience designing experiments, and developing measurement strategies
- Ability to take multiple large scale projects from scoping requirements through actual launch of the project
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, describe software product features, and technical designs
- Product and customer-centric approach. The frameworks and platforms we are building are going to be demonstrated by Uber engineers across many teams.
- Frequently working in vaguely scoped areas, responsible for defining project requirements for improving reliability and performance by keeping the reusability in mind.
- Proficiency and interest in working cross-team with both technical and product teams.
For New York, NY-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$185,000 per year - USD$205,500 per year.
For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$185,000 per year - USD$205,500 per year.
For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$185,000 per year - USD$205,500 per year.
