About the Team
The Business Applications team empowers Uber’s global workforce by delivering innovative technical solutions, seamless service, and scalable systems. We partner closely with teams across Sales, Legal, Community Operations, and other operational functions spanning Uber’s Delivery, Mobility, and Freight businesses. Our focus lies in driving productivity, supporting new business line expansion, and enabling integrations across internal platforms and external partners—fostering continuous innovation at scale.
About the Role
As a Data Scientist specializing in Generative AI within the Business Applications team, you will help advance our mission by designing intelligent solutions that automate and enhance core business processes. Your work will focus on identifying high-impact data sources and developing Generative AI solutions such as the once that enable intelligent document understanding, natural language processing, automated content generation, and contextual decision support—unlocking new levels of efficiency and innovation across the teams we support. Collaborating with business stakeholders, engineers, and product owners, you’ll help define and execute our Generative AI strategy to scale productivity and innovation across Uber’s global operations.
What You Will Do
- Analyze Available Data: Examine and evaluate existing datasets to determine their suitability for use in AI models, ensuring that the selected data will drive efficient and accurate outcomes.
- Data-Driven ModelDesign: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand specific use cases and identify the appropriate data inputs for models focused on document processing, classification, scoring, and other related applications.
- Outcome-Focused AI Implementation: Work with stakeholders to define success metrics and ensure that AI models are designed with the right data to achieve targeted business outcomes.
- Model Optimization: Continuously assess the performance of AI models, making adjustments to data inputs and algorithms as needed to maintain alignment with desired outcomes.
- Monitoring - Continuously monitor and improve the performance, reliability, and scalability of AI models and systems, implement Observability for AI solution
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with data engineers, domain experts, and other stakeholders to ensure that AI models are integrated effectively into business processes and that the right data is used for each application.
Basic Qualifications
- Educational Background: Master’s in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, or a related field or equivalent years of relevant industry experience
- 5+ years of experience in data science with a focus on machine learning, Generative AI, and data analysis.
- Production coding experience with programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL
- Strong understanding of model development, including those for document processing, classification, and scoring, and the selection of appropriate data inputs.
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to determine the best data inputs for achieving specific business goals.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate data-driven insights and recommendations to non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in working within the Business technology domain which has a combination of 3P and homegrown solutions
- Experience in developing and deploying ML/AI models at scale and 2+ years of experience leveraging Generative AI models
- Experience with deep learning frameworks such as Tensorflow, PyTorch, or similar
- Experience with advanced Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) techniques, particularly for processing large documents.
- A deep passion for AI and its potential to solve complex problems, with a continuous desire to learn and innovate
For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$195,000 per year - USD$217,000 per year.
For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$195,000 per year - USD$217,000 per year.
