About the Role

Internet Traffic Team oversees the ingress and egress of internet traffic to Uber, covering both mobile and web traffic. Responsibilities include Layer 7 routing, SSL termination, Envoy proxies, L4 Load Balancing, Uber's DNS infrastructure, and anti-DDoS functionalities. As the manager of the team, you will lead a group of talented engineers to enhance user experience, reduce networking latency, and ensure the security and reliability of Uber's mobile and web traffic. You will be responsible for driving key innovations and leading other engineers, setting technical direction and fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

---- What the Candidate Will Do ----

  1. Manage Uber's internet traffic team, covering Layer 7 routing, SSL termination, Envoy proxies, L4 Load Balancing, Uber's DNS infrastructure, and anti-DDoS functionalities.
  2. Tackle complex problems on a global scale, ensuring smooth and efficient network operations.
  3. Lead a group of talented engineers to enhance user experience, reduce networking latency, and ensure the security and reliability of Uber's mobile and web traffic.
  4. Foster collaborative efforts with key stakeholders to align objectives and optimize results.
  5. Coordinate prompt responses to network outages or performance issues to maintain service reliability.

---- Basic Qualifications ----

  1. Bachelor’s/Master's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  2. 8+ years of experience in backend software development or management.
  3. At least 2 years of experience as a manager.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across different teams and effectively lead projects.

---- Preferred Qualifications ----

  1. Proven ability to mentor staff-level engineers, foster innovation in technology projects, and lead teams effectively.
  2. Strong knowledge of networking concepts such as HTTP, TCP/IP, UDP, DDoS mitigation, CDN caching strategies, and BGP..
  3. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  4. Understands failure modes in high scale distributed systems and strategies for incident prevention.
  5. Advanced understanding of cloud systems, including experience with cloud service providers like AWS, Azure, OCI, or Google Cloud.

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$218,000 per year - USD$242,000 per year.

For Seattle, WA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$218,000 per year - USD$242,000 per year.

For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$218,000 per year - USD$242,000 per year.
