Lead Product Manager, Earner Policy

Product Management, Product
in Amsterdam, Netherlands

About the team:

Every day millions of people choose Uber to earn a living.  Their livelihood depends on us.  As a result, policymakers around the world have a vested interest in understanding and shaping our Marketplace too.  This team is responsible for collaborating with our business, legal, and policy partners to invest in these relationships with our external stakeholders and Drivers by extension.  This includes but is not limited to building their trust in increasingly sophisticated algorithms and co-creating a tech-wide strategy that balances local requirements with the flexibility to maximize and service demand from Riders and Eaters around the world.

Company leadership has decided that building a muscle to excel here will be a global strategic advantage and existential need for the company.

What you’ll do:

  • Define a product vision for the team, considering user experience, brand perception, financial cost, and efficiency.  This vision should span both technology and operations.
  • Design a set of principles to guide and build a roadmap across the Uber tech organization that drives our external transparency and fairness narrative.
  • Translate user needs and business priorities into clear product requirements.
  • Identify patterns and opportunities to design a program that can rapidly scale.  For example, what requirements should be handled quickly as one-offs and which ones warrant a dedicated tech effort to set us up in the future?
  • Build and foster a strong team culture with a focus on execution and results.
  • Clearly communicate product plans, tech investments, and impact to a diverse audience, ranging from executives and crossfunctional teams to our users.

Basic qualifications:

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in related fields (including strategic operations, business consulting, finance) with a minimum 5 years of direct product experience.
  • You are an independent self-starter biased toward action, a great collaborator, and constantly pushing toward clarity and delivery.  You aren’t scared of ambiguity.
  • Able to guide others through trade-offs between speed, quality, and cost.   As well as platform and product capabilities, thus sequencing priorities accordingly.
  • Strong systems thinker.  You will be driving major tech investments.  Thinking about how solutions can extend across multiple use cases will  be critical.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical concepts across cross-functional teams and to simplify key takeaways for executives.
  • You thrive under pressure, sweat the details, and can execute on tight timelines in a rapidly changing external environment.
  • Outcome and impact focused.  No task is too small for you.

Nice-to-have:

  • Background in engineering or computer science, finance, and / or general management.
  • Experience and interest in law, public policy, and comms strategy.  Policy wonks welcome!
  • Experience managing senior cross-functional stakeholders globally.
  • Ability to speak directly to regulators and external stakeholders.  You would be the literal voice of Uber’s technology organization.
  • A track record of building highly robust, technical platforms.
  • Curiosity and ability to dive deep when necessary to unblock teams.  You don’t shy away from hard problems or complexity.
  • A never-ending desire to grow and learn. You never give up and set a high bar across the board, from your own contribution to the people you work with.

We welcome people from all backgrounds who seek the opportunity to help build a future where everyone and everything can move independently. If you have the curiosity, passion, and collaborative spirit, work with us, and let’s move the world forward, together.
