All Uber driver partners, couriers and passengers are insured. Coverage is subject to conditions and limits.
How it works
What this means for you
Get help with medical costs if you’re injured in an accident while on an Uber trip. If your injuries stop you from driving, you can also get help with lost earning opportunities.

If you’re an Uber Driver Partner or Courier in Kenya, Partner & Rider Injury Protection can help you with medical expenses and other costs.
You pay nothing
As part of our global commitment to safety we have partnered with AIG to provide as many driver and courier partners as possible with this protection. That’s why this insurance is free to you.
Your customers are insured too
While on an Uber trip in Kenya, your passengers are also automatically covered by injury protection insurance at no cost to them.
How to use the insurance if you’re injured
If you’re injured in an accident while On-Trip and want to get help with your medical costs, please use the in-app claim form or contact AIG (see below).

- What are the key features of cover?
Partner & Rider Injury Protection provides cover for specific events that occur while a Driver Partner, Courier or Rider is On-Trip. The key features are listed below. For full details please read this information from AIG.
- Medical cover: If an accident happens On-Trip, this cover reimburses you for necessary medical costs you have incurred following the accident (e.g. X-ray, operations, medicines) up to a capped sum.
- Death and funeral payments: In the unfortunate event that you die as a result of an accident On-Trip, your dependents or heirs will benefit from a lump sum payment.
- Permanent Disability payments: In the unfortunate event that you suffer a permanent disability as a result of an accident On-Trip, you will benefit from a lump sum payment. The amount depends on the severity of the disability, as determined by AIG.
- Daily Payment Benefit (injury): If you are hospitalised for more than 48 hours as a result of an accident that happened On-Trip and are thereafter unable to work because of your injuries, you will receive a daily payment for up to 30 days whilst you are medically certified by a qualified doctor as unfit to work.
- Inconvenience Payment: If a Driver or Courier suffers Bodily Injury from an On-Trip accident which results in hospitalisation lasting a minimum of 24 consecutive hours the Insurer shall pay the Driver a lump sum payment.
*Note: All above covers are subject to prescribed conditions and limits, which Uber may amend at its discretion.

- Uber may withdraw, update or modify this insurance at any time in its sole discretion.
- This insurance is procured by Uber at its own discretion and cost.
- Drivers Partners and Couriers shall not in any way be responsible or liable for any payments or premiums relating to the insurance whatsoever.
- The Driver Partner / Courier and Uber acknowledge and agree that the Driver Partner / Courier can decide to opt-out from being covered by the Insurance at any time by indicating they are declining the protection of the cover upon notice or request. Declining cover will not affect your ability to use the Uber App.
- Driver Partners and Couriers are independent contractors. This Insurance does not in any way create an employment relationship or an expectation of employment (including from a labour law, tax law or social security law perspective) between Uber and the Driver Partner / Courier.
- Why is Uber doing this?
Down Small Sometimes accidents happen on the road. We want to help you protect yourself against medical costs and lost earning opportunities due to accidental injuries sustained while you’re On-Trip. We are proud to be industry leaders with AIG in being your partner on the road.
- What does today’s announcement mean?
Down Small We have been working closely with AIG to develop new products in Kenya. These product offerings are now available to Driver Partners in Kenya, and also to Couriers and Riders.
- Can all Uber partners get this protection?
Down Small Yes, all Uber Driver Partners and Couriers are now covered by this insurance, but you can decline if you prefer (see the next question to find out how).
- I don’t want this insurance. How do I say “no”?
Down Small It is your decision whether you are covered by this insurance program. You are free to say “no” at any time with no consequences. If you decline, you will no longer be protected by Partner & Rider Injury Protection coverage, including help with medical costs and lost earning opportunities if you’re in an accident while on an Uber trip. - Where is Injury Protection provided?
Down Small Partner & Rider Injury Protection is provided in Kenya where Uber operates Rides and Eats.
- Does Injury Protection replace my own commercial vehicle motor insurance?
Down Small No, Partner & Rider Injury Protection does not provide commercial vehicle insurance nor is it a substitute for comprehensive vehicle insurance. Please contact your insurer, broker or agent if you have any questions regarding your motor insurance.
- "What does “On-Trip” mean? When am I protected? "
Down Small Cover is in place from the moment you accept a trip or delivery request, during the trip and through to when the trip or delivery ends. Please visit this link to see the full policy details.
- How do I activate my coverage?
Down Small You do not need to do anything. You are protected whenever you’re On-Trip using the Uber App.
- What is not covered?
