When Uber first launched in Tampa Bay in April of 2014, we wanted to transform the way people move around. To many locals, the whole idea of a reliable, affordable and safe way to get around the area seemed too good to be true.

But flash forward to over a year later, and Uber is a viable transportation option for everyone and anyone looking for something better, faster, and cheaper than what was previously available.

Last month we asked ourselves what would happen if uberX were actually half the price of a taxi? And then we asked, what would it look like if we took it even further than that? So in April, we reduced our prices to make uberX 60% cheaper than a taxi.

  • A trip from Downtown Tampa to Downtown St. Pete is now only $26. That’s almost $40 cheaper than the same trip you would take in a taxi!
  • Leaving town? An uberX from Downtown Tampa to the airport is less than $10.
  • USF students: going out tonight? Be responsible and have an Uber driver-partner be your designated driver. What would cost $30 in a cab is only $12 in an uberX.
