Open Air Classics: Top 10 Spots in Eastern Market
Written byJust a short ride from downtown, Eastern Market was built around an open air farmer’s market that hosts local food providers and merchants every Saturday. With the market’s sheds as a backdrop, the last 10 years have given rise to some of the city’s most creative retail and restaurants.
To make this list of our top 10 locations, we combined trip data from 2016 with some of the @Uber_MI team’s favorite spots.

#8: Farmer’s
A classic diner, specializing in corned beef sandwiches and greasy spoon breakfast fare across the street from Shed 2 in the heart of the market.
#7: Supino Pizzeria
One of the better New York style pizza joints this side of the motherland. You’ll have to build in some time to wait in line. It’s worth it.
#6: Russell St. Deli
Located just off Gratoit on Russell St., this Eastern Market classic has recently expanded it’s Corned Beef and Pastrami empire to a second location at Ford Field.
#5: Germack Coffee
A company famous for roasting seeds and nuts since 1924 likely knows their way around a cup of coffee. Visit their espresso bar in Eastern Market and try a cup from beans cured on-site.
#4: Division Street Boutique
From t-shirts to stickers and patches, this hipster boutique peddles gear reminding locals and visitors that “Detroit Hustles Harder.”
#3: Saturday Market
Every Saturday since the late 1800s, the neighborhood has come alive with local food vendors and craftspeople. This year-round market is a perfect way to get any weekend started on a high note.
#2: Antietam
Craft cocktails in vintage glassware and a creative menu are the highlights at this French-inspired bistro.
#1: Trinosophes
Part coffee shop, part performance space and all awesome, it’s Spartan layout makes it an ideal place for Detroit’s creative class to play.
