20+ improvements to your Uber experience in 2024
The feedback you share with us through the Crew program, focus groups, and surveys helps us improve your experience with Uber. We’re excited to share new app features that are designed to help make the things you do every day safer, fairer, and easier.
We’re giving you more ways to have your voice heard on decisions that affect your experience on the platform.
Products and availability vary. Check your Driver app to find out what’s offered near you.
Safety
New measures to help you feel safer on the Uber platform.
Look for verified rider badges in the app
Feel more confident picking up riders by knowing they are who they say they are. We verify riders by reviewing their account details, cross-checking them with third-party databases, and, if needed, asking them to submit a government ID. Verified riders have a badge next to their name and rating, giving you another way to make an informed decision when driving with Uber.
Cancel whenever you feel unsafe, without penalty
We know there may be times when you feel uncomfortable or unsafe on your way to pick up a rider. If you do, you can cancel a trip for safety reasons before arriving at a rider’s pickup location—with no impact on your cancellation rate.
Communicate easily with guest riders
Pickups can be confusing when the rider is different from the person who requested the ride. We’ve made improvements (coming soon to the app) so that guest riders and drivers can communicate directly by phone and text in order to coordinate pickup.
Choose to turn on PIN verification
You now have the option to enable PIN verification for all trips or just the next session. Riders will need to share the correct 4-digit code before you start the trip, helping you make sure the right person is getting in your car.
Later this year, you will be able to send route information from the Driver app directly to your Tesla display, so you no longer need to manually enter trip details. Plus, with battery-aware matching, you’ll only receive trip requests within your Tesla’s battery range.
Go hands-free with Siri Shortcuts
iPhone users can use Siri for certain voice commands, like helping you call customers and go online—totally hands-free.
Fairness
Improvements to help give you more control over your Uber experience.
Keeping riders accountable
If a rider’s behavior is inappropriate, you can provide feedback post-trip to let us know they were disrespectful; we’ll send them a warning and tips from real drivers for how they can improve on future trips. We’ll also be sharing important information with delivery customers, restaurants, grocery stores, and other merchants on Uber Eats to explain what respectful interactions with couriers look like.
As always, riders who ignore Uber’s Community Guidelines or whose ratings fall below a certain level may lose access to the platform. If you ever feel unsafe or experience harassment or discrimination of any kind while using Uber, please report it in the app. With your feedback, we can take appropriate action.
Giving you the option to block riders
Currently, if you rate a trip one star, we automatically block you from that rider, so you’ll no longer get trip requests from them. Now we’re piloting the option for you to block a rider if you rate a trip 2 or 3 stars.
Getting alerts and sharing info when your account is at risk
Last year, we announced major changes to our deactivation processes, including a way for drivers and couriers to provide new information to support their case. Coming soon, you’ll be sent a clear in-app alert if your account is at risk of being deactivated for certain safety reports. With the new reports experience, you can share a description of what happened and any recordings or photos that will better explain your side of the story before it affects your account status.
Ease
Our first app redesign since 2018 includes several new features to help make every day easier.
Make simpler decisions with our new homescreen
Later in 2024, you’ll notice a new homescreen with clearer guidance to help you decide whether now is a good time for you to go online. Plus, key sections of the app, like Earnings and Inbox, are now just a tap away.
Get a clearer breakdown of weekly customer fares
Soon you’ll see a weekly customer fare breakdown on the Earnings page. This view shows where every dollar a rider pays is going. From your take-home pay to insurance and fees, you’ll be able to see what percentage goes where, all in the app.
Track your earnings with session summaries
You’ll now see an option to view your session summary when you go offline. This view shows key numbers such as how much you earned and how many trips you took, plus some insights and personalized recommendations.
Access more opportunities with Work Hub
We redesigned the Work Hub in the Driver app so it’s easier for you to sign up for new earnings opportunities. We’re also expanding the number of opportunities available, so you can try out more trips like alcohol delivery or orders that may require an insulated bag, such as pizza orders.*
See offers outside the app
Currently, Android users get detailed trip requests, even if the Driver app is only open in the background. In late 2024, iPhone users will also see updates outside the app, so you’ll never miss a trip request.
Browse Trip Radar on a bigger screen
We’re continuing to add new features to CarPlay and Android Auto, so you can do more from a bigger, more comfortable screen. Soon you’ll be able to browse and accept exclusive and Trip Radar requests from your car’s display.
These are just a few of the new features included in the first phase of our app redesign
Check out the page at the link below to explore even more features we’re launching to make every day a little easier for you when using the Uber app.
Routes for new trips
When you’re on a trip and receive a new trip request, you’ll now see the pickup location and route of that new request in addition to your current trip navigation.
Real-time road info to help avoid delays
We’ve added 2 new categories for drivers to report on while on the road: traffic and accidents. The Uber map will reflect reports in real time and suggest alternative routes to help you and other drivers on the road reach your destination as quickly and safely as possible. You’ll also be able to report speed cameras later this year.
Easier handoffs with improved courier navigation
Uber Maps now includes aerial map mode, so you can easily find pickup or dropoff delivery locations without having to switch apps. We’re also asking customers to provide more detailed information like building type and entrance photos to help you find the correct dropoff spot. Later in 2024, couriers will see clearer walking instructions and in-app bike navigation too.
Optimized rider pickups
We’re launching a new feature later in 2024 to guide drivers and riders toward main roads or convenient corners, instead of needing to navigate a maze of side streets.
Routing that includes traffic delays
Later in 2024, we’re launching an update to Uber Maps that will factor in future traffic patterns. This will help us provide more accurate routes, ETAs, and upfront fares.
*Earnings opportunities are subject to minimum requirements. See the Driver app for details.
